Hey dudes, I've done some searching and found some studies about how many hairs you're supposed to lose on a regular basis etc etc but thought it would be cool to see what results the people here have with a little bit different test than the one I read online (combing hair for 60 seconds).

Here's the test:

AFTER you take your shower (shampoo etc), when you step out of the shower towel dry your hair with a moderate circular motion for approx 8-10 seconds. Look at the towel and count how many hairs come off into the towel.

as long as you're not towling really hard you shouldn't be breaking off any hairs but just grabbing onto the hairs that already fell out.

I've done this for 3-5 days straight now, I'm at approx 8-10 hairs that come out. I'd like to see how normal this is. If you already know your stats then post them here and thanks for the input!

I think this could be too frustrating for the most of us :(

8-10 hairs even after you're out of the shower? that is pretty bad buddy....

when i'm towel drying my hair and I even see one hair i get scared....

The fact that you took a shower, got the hair wet, shampooed your hair, massaged your scalp, rinsed out everything, there shouldn't be anything that falls out after you get out......

I deem this thread bullshit. This "test" dosent prove or deny anything, its a crock of sh*t. If you rub your head, hairs will fall out.

yeah i hope he's being sarcastic. i haven't counted the number of hairs yet, but i'd say it's roughly around 8 or so as well.

counting hairs is bullshit. Ive been losing hairs for 4years bad enough. Im not talking one or two im talking tens..In shower...drying my hair...styling it...playing with it..wearing hats etc etc etc. However i still have a decent head of hair.

Concern yourself with how much hair is on your head and not whats on the floor.

Well that's cool that you're only losing no hairs but you should understand that's abnormal--even after you shampoo and rinse.

Even if it wasn't why are you so shocked that someone posting on "gourmetstylewellness.com" is losing their hair?

To the people who say it's pointless to do this; you should understand that in order to know if your regimine is working you need to take a scientific approach.

When you say, "just concern yourself with the hairs that are on your head", sure that's a great line to get a slap on the *** from your buddies but it's not very logical.

I've been receding for around 4 years and balding in the crown area for around 2 years - but I've never experienced more than 1 hair fall out at a time. This is a very rare occurrence and not even after a shower. It seems most people who're balding have a lot of hair fall out each day, so I'm wondering why mine doesn't yet I am still balding.

Agreed. Dr. Proctor certainly never took very seriously the number of hairs people lose per day. EVERYBODY loses hairs every day, balding and non-balding alike.

BTW, I'll recount a story here that I heard years ago on alt.baldspot, and made an impression on me. A guy said his girlfriend had the thickest, most luxuriant hair he'd ever seen, and yet she lost an amazing number of hairs every day. He said whenever she stayed over and then showered the next morning, there'd be shed hairs ALL OVER his bathroom: in the sink, on the floor, in the bathtub, etc.

So do you STILL think that counting daily lost hairs is a good indication of balding? :)

That is what happens with my sister.....long strands of hair all over the place but yet still a huge thick head of hair

This test makes little sense to me for two reasons.

The majority of your hair that was going to come out would have gone down the drain in the shower rather that drying surely?

-Plus, I've never lost a huge amount of hairs (10-20 a day probably). Doing this test, I rarely see a hair on the towel, maybe one or two on somedays. Yet I am balding.

Well, to add to what previous posters mentioned, I have been on treatments for several years now. I have been shedding loads of hair daily- now that it's longer it is even more obvious. Yet I have not experienced any decline in density-quality. It's a matter of balance I guess... Do not freak out with hairs falling down! :)

Yes. Here's a test run on a group of 60 men, the results suggest that you can determine if the amount of hair you're losing in a day is normal or not.

http://www.stopnowhairloss.com/2008/06/ ... uick-test/

As for this guys story: We should keep in mind that if a man who was balding and shaving his head with a #2 clipper lost 20 hairs in the shower you probably wouldn't even notice it because they would be very short and wash down the drain easily or blend into a towel. Now take a woman with long thick hair and if she loses just 10 it would be very obvious because of the size difference.

Also, a woman usually doesn't shampoo her hair every day. She may go 2-3 days without shampooing it. Because she has thick hair the hairs lost daily would become entangled into her hair and wouldn't actually come off until she washes. Now take the guy with the shaven head; when he loses a hair during the day it would just fly away in the wind.

Then there's the fact that a man with a #2 shaved head doesn't use a hairbrush. A woman brushing her wet hair with a brush would pull out lots of hair leaving it on the sink and on the floor etc..

There's way too many variables here for this story to hold any type of ground in a logical discussion-- but yeah, neat story.

Before this thread was started, I tested this in a different way:

I was drying my hair with towel REALLY hard and this way I saw almost 30! follicles in the sink. And I have no hair loss and really thick hair in my crown area (I have receding in my temples nowhere else). So your test proves nothing I'm afraid.

I'm afriad that the majority of the people posting in this thread lack the common sense and reading comprehension needed to understand the simple logic behind this test.

Everyone here is posting opinions, I'm the only one posting any type of scientific data to back up what I'm saying. Oh well no big deal, I'll just compare my results to the study.

Have you never had a gf  ? Just kidding...

I used to have long hair, and I have lived with both guys and girls with long hair. Even minimal shedding when the hair is long is extremely visible.
