Hairline destroyed by overuse of Nizoral?

I have been using Nizoral 2% daily for the past 4 months and it has significantly thinned my hair on top especially the hairline. I am pretty sure this is due to the overuse of Nizoral as the thinning has happened really fast starting after two weeks into Nizoral. Now that I have completely stopped using it, should i expect some recovery of the lost hair?

Daily is way too much, specially at 2%. Ketoconazole is a very harsh ingredient. I use 1% every 3 days.

I know that but the damage's been done. Are the lost hair going to grow back or they gone for good?

Even if you did use nizoral everyday I doubt it could destroy your hairline in a short timeframe. Hair that falls out due to stress, poor diet, tight hats/ponytails or chemical/shampoo products isn't permanent (usually) its the miniaturization of the hair and the damage that the bastard DHT does to your hair follicle that you have to worry about. Lots of people tend to blame anything and everything expect Male Pattern Baldness which 99.9% of the time is the main culprit.

Ive been using regenepure daily for well over a year and it has been great on my hair. I dont know how much 2% vs 1% effects potential damaging effects, but perhaps its the ingredients in nizoral that just doesn't work well on op's hair/scalp? If I'm not mistaken it has SLS which always gave me terrible dandruff and dried out hair

Where are you buying it? I've went to CVS and Walgreens here in Dallas with no luck. I too want a sulfate-free shampoo wth ketoconazole.

Nizoril makes my hair dry. Its very harsh. I would say keep it to once a week tops. I may cut it out.

I have been using Nizoral daily as well. I bumped up my usage from every 3 days to combat the suggested elevated levels of scalp testosterone from taking dutas. I have been on dutas for a little over 4 months now and have seen nothing but the recession of my hairline speed up. I only have hairline recession, want to keep as much as possible obviously, so I hopped on dutas with the intent of it being my only hair loss

Perhaps try the alternative Revita. It's a bit more pricey but apparently it's really good. It's also less drying.

It all varies from person to person, though.

I use amazon since I can get the student discount on prime and the benefits for you what pay are just crazy. You can find the other brands like revita or the 'big 3 shampoo' there as well, but there are a ton out there. Regenepure may not still jive with your hair but it certainly did with mine

Nizoral ingredients: ketoconazole Acrylic Acid Polymer , Butylated Hydroxytoluene , Cocamide MEA , FD&C Blue 1 , Fragrance , Glycol Distearate , Polyquaternium 7 , Quaternium 15 , Sodium Chloride , Sodium Cocoyl Sarcosinate , Sodium Hydroxide , Hydrochloric Acid , Sodium Laureth Sulfate , Tetrasodium EDTA , Water (Aqua)

Regenepure:Water, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (Aloe Vera Gel), Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Carbomer, Glycerin, PEG-8, Ketoconazole, Niacin (Vitamin B3), Serenoa Serrulata Extract (Saw Palmetto), Hydrolyzed Wheat Proteins, Dimethicone, Allantoin, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Pyridoxine HCI (Vitamin B6), Linolenic Acid, Emu Oil, DL-Panthenol, Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil (Jojoba), Menthol, Mentha Viridis Oil (Spearmint), Hexylene Glycol, Salicylic Acid, PEG-25 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Citrus Medica Limonum Oil (Lemon), Caffeine, Zinc Oxide, Guanine, Benzophenone 4, Polysorbate 80, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexyglycerin, FD&C Blue #1

I've never tried the other brands so I can't compare if they are better or not. Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS) is the main culprit for dry hair and itchy scalp for me in the past, and is not uncommon to be irritating to a good bit of people. Tricomin has SLS and there is no SLS in Revita shampoo, although the latter has a very similar looking chemical and a brief google search claims that's its an alternative, so it shouldn't be an issue.

Like laurent said Revita could work for you tooI haven't tried it as I never had an issue with the one I'm using

Did exactly the same to me. Always had fine hair to begin with. Haven't lost any hair but much thinner. Strange because the day I used it my hair was so thick then the day after it was just like straw - absolutely fried. Not sure if it will ever go back to the same but live and learn ey.

I've been using a Ketoconazole shampoo daily for over a year now as it helps with the Minoxidil itch, and my hairline is definitely better than it was before I started treatment. I doubt that Nizoral would damage your hairline unless you were allergic to an ingredient in it.

I do believe that keto 2% can "damage" hairs if used too frequently. Shoot, even the 1% bottle says to only use the stuff for 2 weeks max or until whatever scalp problem you have has been remedied. I'd say that every 3-4 days is optimal for keto.

Ive been using Nizoral 1% for about a year and have noticed no loss or gains in hair from using it. It has however completely eliminated my scalp itch and calmed my scalp. Before using Nizoral my scalp was so itchy. Oh and I use it 1-2 times a week. No more than that.

I have been using 2% once a week Boots brand Keto. I naturally have a dryish scalp so during the week I use another shampoo to keep my scalp moist. I don't know if Keto shampoo actually has any use and I may drop it. My hair is improving but it always was on finasteride. I never had dandruff, inflamed itchy type of scalp, just a little maybe.

That's why I think it's useless in a way. We know what happens if you drop finasteride or Min. I suppose it might make like a 0.5% positive difference. If you have an itchy inflamed scalp then Keto is good but not sure as a hair loss product, I don't believe the two are correlated.

Guess im new so I cant make my own thread.. dont want to hijack this topic but...

Well I kinda have hesitated to post here since its embarressing but part of me feels I should. I know a lot of people say ketoconazole is great or whatever, and theres only a small bit of people who say it cant hurt. But im one of the people it totally destroyed my hair. I dont have a lot of pictures from it but you can see some of what happened. So basically just posting this here just to show people that if it looks like its ****ing up your hair, dont keep using it thinking that its not it, because it might be... Anyway my story...

Back drop my health is not good, been on disablity most my life now. I have periods of chronic Telogen Effluvium that have lasted long times. After doing radiation and having some other health problems I lost most my hair at one point.. I went from being a model to wearing a hat for 2 years waiting for it to grow back. So after that for what its worth once it grew back i was like **** this, im never taking a chance that it could get this bad again so I started taking propecia.. Anyway of course since then sometimes are worse than others with the Telogen Effluvium, but ive had times when ive had so much hair that people think im wearing a wig.. Other times(Like now espeically)its more thin...

OK so for about the past year ive had some pretty bad shedding from Telogen Effluvium sorta stuff all over. Ive had awful night sweats for about 8-9 months straight, eye was twitching for 3 months, blah blah.. health has been pretty bad again and my hair has thinned a lot..

But also durning this time for the first time in my life, I started getting this red marks, and pimples all over my hair line, in the front and in the back. They were itchy and even painful. I was also at this time sweating a **** load all over, and i was noticing some hair loss in these parts...

So I tried to look this up on the internet, and I honestly I couldnt tell, was it some kinda of dandruff(? never had it before)psorosis, or it even looked like some kinda lupus mark on my skin(again i have a lot of health problems moving on)

Anyway moving well I make a appointment at UofM dermatology but its gonna take me months before they can see me, so I decide just to buy that regenepure DR shampoo since I hear its good and if it is dandruff I gues keto is good?

Well I try it a few times and everytime I put it on, the places that had red marks, all got super scaly and peeled off with my hair. So I stopped this pretty quickly and was like ****. For what its worth it got rid of the redness itchyness and pain but all the places it put it again my hair fell out.

Anyway so I see UofM by this point the red marks are pretty much gone. So they dont seem concerend and they are like whatever, we cant even apprecaite(and this is the word they used to me multiple times cuz i complained they werent take me seriously)any hair loss or see anything. But they told me what probably happened was again I had dandruff or some kind of follicletitis or something. And that my bad reaction to regenepure DR is that they have never heard of it and its probably a bull**** product that is not FDA approved. So they gave me some real ketoconazole or some **** *rolls eyes*

Anyway so time goes on and I start getting some red marks and some pimples again(which i have a pic of here ill show)tehy tell me to use the keto whatever.. Well wow even worse effect then the regenepure all the red marks again get really scaly peel off and all my hair in those red spots falls off. And not only that it gives me a headache. Which again now I have pics after this. And you can see it seriously took off a good inchs from my hair line in certain spots all over. Even my back(dont have pics but you get the idea)

Anyway im like **** this shampoo and just start shampooing my hair everyday(I was doing every other day)and it eventually stops... It takes me months to get into UofM again.. And then by the time I see them they are like, oh well weve never had a patient that, that happend to, and since we didnt see you put on the keto, we are going to say it didnt happen.

....

Ya no joke. And then they were like its just coincidence heres some rogaine.

No ****ing joke. Tried to give me a excuse that because they didnt see me put it on, it didnt happen like that.

Anyway im embaressed to post this because ive lost a **** load from it.. For what its worth I do have a lot of baby hairs all accross my hair line now.. but still now a full inch worth of what ive lost which really has me worried that maybe some of it is just totally gone now. So im just saying be careful I guess. I shoulda stopped this right away and never listened to them to keep trying.. Shoulda stopped after the first time.

Anyway so yea some pics of me before keto, and then after Picture 212a.jpgPicture 41.jpg10568787_10202511078479784_5443102501635013446_n.jpg1964985_10201614225539021_1243691812_n.jpg or well for some reason it shows up reverse any as you can see before then after

Not wanna make a new thread. So I want to ask you guys here.

I found this article "Nizoral 1% Study Shows Benefits for Androgenetic Alopecia" in many websites for hair loss. But I couldn't find an original text/paper on PubMed.

This makes me doubt the legitimacy of this study. Can you guy find the original source for this one (or at least from trustworthy unbiased website)?

Most people seem on the fence with it. Be careful with it anyway - ketoconazole is very harsh stuff, maybe weak for male pattern baldness, but not good to overuse, especially for hair texture.
