Have You Ever Seen A Balding Albino Man?

For a long time now I think that male pattern baldness is caused by a shift in melanocytes from producing keratin to producing melanin, due to environmental factors related to sun exposure and elevated temperature. That would explain white people being more bald in general than darker-skinned people. Finasteride also mess with melanocytes, and there are some scientific studies stating that. Look at this one: Finasteride inhibits melanogenesis.

So that leads to thinking: have you ever seen a balding albino man? Since they don't produce melanin, that would be an interesting think to look up for. Doing a quick google search, I haven't found any balding albino. Just some albinos that shaved their head, but that doesn't say they have male pattern baldness.

I wait for your comments.

Haha.. How often do you see albinos? I have probably seen 1 or 2 in my life, it's not like they are everywhere. But hey, next time i see one, i will tjek for signs of male pattern baldness and report back.

Interesting theory, because I'm a white guy who has had tons of sun exposure for about 10 years now. And I seem to be balding way way earlier than my father who didn't spend a lot of time in the sun. I also notice a lot of white laborers and laborers have terrible hair as well

Yes, my observations don't fail me on this one either. I'm born and live in a tropical country, and if a person has fairly white skin, the chances is that they passed a lot of time inside an air conditioned environment most of their lives or they are bald.

It makes sense because melanin and keratin are produced by same cell that differentiates early on to produce each one of them (I'm pretty sure that is what happens because I'm not a biologist).

Also, if you look a scalp of a person with a full head of hair, you will see it is bright white, in a different tone than skin cells. If you see a bald scalp, it will be the same tone as the forehead skin.

And finally, it is proved now that Finasteride decreases the melanin level in the body. It inhibits melanogenesis. So it could for hairloss not because of DHT effects, but because of changes in melanocytes. Keratin and melanin could canibalize themselves on the body depending on environmental factors.

I ordered a skin whitening product and I will try it for the next weeks. If it works I'll show the results with pictures.

It'd be cool if some scientists tried this theory in a more detailed manner.

No. They get normal receding hairlines like everyone else.
