Hello everyone,

I am a 22 year old boy from Bulgaria. I have been lurking on this forum from about 1 year, but just recently decided to actually register and start posting on it.

I suffer from stage 3 (vertex) male pattern baldness, according to the Norwood Hairloss Chart (google it if you don't know what exactly that chart consists of). My grandfather (my father's father), my father and my uncle (his brother) are all completely bald, so best guess is my baldness is inherited. I started noticing my temples got larger around the time I turned 16. Since then, I tried a great variety of cosmetic and natural "remedies" to male pattern baldness, but they all failed, some completely, others to a great extend. About a year ago, I stumbled upon this forum and gradually got influenced by the idea to try the treatments discussed here. In October 2007 I started applying 1ml minoxidil twice a day on my scalp and washing my hair with 2% Nizoral 3 times a week. By the time Spring 2008 came, I noticed almost no results at all, so I decided to go further and treat my hair with The Big Three. I started taking Finpecia on 15 May, 0.2mg a day. I used a method, proposed by some guys here, in which you dissolve finasteride in alcohol and then take a predetermined dose of it each day, according to how much finasteride you want to take per day.

So far, the only results I can notice, to be honest, are: my hair sheds quite aggressively, no signs of regrowth, except around the lower parts of my temples (above the edges of the eyebrows). I also have much dandruff and my hair gets oily quicker than before. I do not experience side effects from finasteride (like lack of libido etc), except a temporal slight headache right after I take my daily dose (which is due to hormonal disbalance, as some people on this forum stated).

I plan on changing my regimen the following way:
0.5 mg of Finpecia (internally - half a pill) every 2nd day.
~ 0.1 mg of Finpecia (topically, with my minoxidil application) every day (3 tablets in a bottle of 65ml).
2 ml minoxidil (topically, 1ml in the morning and 1ml in the evening) daily.
Nizoral 2% 3 times a week.
Multivitamins every day.
Eat a lot of rice and fish and drink green tea.

I would really appreciate your help with advice, comments, criticism and suggestions, guys. I do not have much knowledge about hairloss and also I do not have much finance to pay for expensive treatments. That is why I seek your help in making my regimen as cost-effective as possible. I also would like to know what do you think about taking 0.5 mg finasteride every second day and not daily. I base this application on a chart I found several times on this forum.

According to it, if you take 0.5 mg every 2nd day you are very well off in inhibiting DHT (and is probably better than taking 0.25 daily). Also, it is probable that by taking lower dosage I will minimize the risk of side effects.

I also wonder if you guys can give me a clue if applying 0.1mg finasteride topically with my minoxidil is a good approach. I would really appreciate if you support me with information about proper dosage and other important things to know before I go with topical application of Finasteride.

Also, I order my Finpecia from GHDrugs.com. If you, guys, know whether this supplier is good and its products - viable, please, state your opinion. I know most of you order from United Pharmacies, but they have troubles shipping to Bulgaria ( if some of you have successfully received shipments from United in Bulgaria - please, tell me). If you can suggest a better supplier for my country - please, do so. I order my minoxidil from Dr. Lee and have heard it is good. If you believe to the contrary and know a better supplier (cost-effective on top) - please, tell me.

So, that is it for now, I will follow this tread carefully before I start my new regimen. I would really really appreciate your help.

Thank you in advance!

it may be that you are experiencing little or no regrowth but your regimen is maintaining what you have. keep things up for a few months before reassessing your situation.

I don't think you should be worried about side effects. You are already taking 0.2mg daily with no sides, so 0.5mg is probably safe for you.

I believe you haven't quite got my point. Actually, lately I am loosing far more hair than I have ever regrown. And, moreover, I am on minoxidil for almost 1 year and I think I have given it enough time. Also, the change I seek is improving current regimen, I will not make any radical change. I only want to hear what is your opinion on my new regimen and on taking finasteride 0.5 mg once every 2 days, because I know there are many guys here who are quite well introduced to hairloss knowledge and may give me invaluable insights!

No, I am not worried about side effects, only mentioned that lower dosage can help decrease the chances of getting them.

Thank you for your opinion, guys!

Combined - Yes, almost 4 months (the time since I started my finasteride). I am still not sure if there is any difference in results received between taking bigger dose and smaller one. There are many guys here, who have maintained great regrowth with tiny (like 0.15 mg daily or 0.25 daily) dose. If many of you convince me that taking 1mg will yield better results, I will take 1 mg, it is no problem.

How about the drug store I take my Finasteride from, do you know something about it?

Thank you.

hi, i got your PM :)
i thought i d reply to the post so everyone can benefit... also please post a photo as that would help a lot....
ok i am not an expert in hairloss and i know some of the guys on this forum have been here for years but from what i have learned and whats worked for me, i suggest the following:

get fincar (5mg) from inhouse to save money
kirkland minoxidil - cheap and effective

take either 0.5mg or 1mg daily
apply minoxidil twice daily and leave on for at least 4 hours
ad some finasteride to your minoxidil to block local dht (some people dont believe in this but i do)
use nizoral everyday or every other day and leave in scalp for 30-60 mins before minoxidil application
use some other type of mild shampoo also when you dont want to use nizarol
take multi vitamins, msm, vit c, omega 3,6,9
also you must have a balanced diet
stop counting hair
take lots of pics (they might be depressing at first but if the regimen is working, the photos will confirm)...

i am also experimenting with some other stuff but its early days to say if they are contributing to my success so not point in mentioning....

goodluck

Thanks, mj9, I appreciate your help. I already put Finasteride pills into my minoxidil bottle and according to my estimation, I take approx 0.1mg daily topically. I will consider increasing my daily dose of Finasteride (internal) from 0.25 to 0.5mg. Important for my decision will be probable bloodtests that I will make, showing the levels of DHT in my blood. If they are low enough that way, I will not increase the dose.

How do you take 0.5 daily with Fincar? You cut the pills in 10 pieces (cant imagine that :)), or dissolve them in alcohol? Also, is the effect of Fincar the same as the one from Finpecia (if you take the same dose of finasteride with both pills)?

I will consider taking kirkland minoxidil, thank you for the suggestion. Do you know something about Dr. Lee's minoxidil, is it good and effective?

Thanks again, mj9!

i am taking 1mg finasteride at the moment but i am planning on going back to 0.5mg as i had good results with that... only reason for the increase is that i am buying 5mg fincar which is difficult to cut into 10ths! i will be dissolve them in alcohol so i can take 0.5mg daily...

also the effect should be and is the same, i had some side effects when i first started but now nothing at all so i m happy...

i am also experimenting with dutasteride, 0.5mg once a week and might increase to twice a week soon... i suppose you could try that too but some people have claimed that dutasteride has been very detrimental to their hair.... i dont think it has done me any harm as i have had lots of regrowth..

:)

Good Job :bravo: .

I will seriously consider taking Fincar and going to 0.5 mg daily. Next week I will have my blood tested and see what my DHT levels are. I plan on going to the doctor on my "off-day" (the 1st day after I have taken my 0.5mg Finasteride) and see what the situation is.

Is Kirkland's minoxidil better than Dr. Lee's or they are virtually the same?

Keep up the good regrowth! :hairy: :hairy: :hairy: :hairy:

Hi man,
nice to see a lad from around the region ;))

I've got to update my posted regimen - I am currently taking 1.25 mg finasteride (in the form of 1/4 pill of Penester) every day. I have been taking this amount since beginning of October.

Finasteride is sold in Bulgaria under several forms. One of the drugs that is freely sold in many pharmacies is Penester, which contains 5mg Finasteride (per pill). The cost of 30 pills is 32 BGN.

Fungoral is unknown to me, and I have no idea whether it is sold here.

minoxidil is not sold, as far as my last check shows. I get mine from eBay.

That's all by me.

And good luck with the skiing! ;)
