Ok, so my hair is pretty bad for an 18 yr old, not terrible, just not normal.

I'd say im about a Norwood 1/1.5, I've started nizoral 1% about a few weeks ago and also started on some MSM + multi-vitamins about 3 days ago.

Not that I think it's gonna regrow hair, just HELP things.

Now I'm pretty against Minx because 1) i have no time to apply it and 2) if i could just MAINTAIN what i have for the years to come, i'd be very happy.

So, Since i really dont have time for these 2-application a day topicals etc etc, what would be the EASIEST and SAFEST route...

I'll be 19 in April. (if that helps anyone)

Should i start Proscar (split to 1mg), im about to order SOMETHING that will help relive all the stress thats coming from hair loss :(....

i was gonna order it from keywestprescription, 95$ for 30, because its the only place i could find in the US, which is what i want to order from...

sorry if i babbled on, any help??

thx alot.

well, if you think that minoxidil will be too time consuming, i guess propecia is your other bet. it says it is for 18 and up and it takes no time at all. their is some sexual side-effect risk but they say it is in only 2 percent of men. these are the only FDA proven methods, im not sure what else could help thats not topical. good luck man, maybe reconsider and use the rogaine, it only takes like 3 minutes. peace

don't get on the minoxidil yet, unless you really want to make a commitment to it. I'd hold off on the propecia, wait till you are 19 - turning 20. People grow up a lot from 18-22. You don't wanna throw your endocrine system outta whack or anything. I'd say you've taken a good first step, but analyze the situation seriously for a couple months, and if you are definately worsening, then maybe go for the propecia (tough call though man)

What exactly do you recomend he do as a good "first step?" Nizoral and MSM will do nothing for his male pattern baldness.

first step? i dont think what im doing will PREVENT further hairloss, i know it wont HURT, but i'm not too sure about how much it'll actually HELP.

anyway, i heard you have to leave minx. in for a long period of time and it makes your hair all greasy and so forth...this true?

anyway, i KNOW my hair is getting worse, and dont really have time to waste IMO. i mean, the temples have already suffered some bad damage and the front portion of my hair has a LOT of little hairs that dont really grow.

so i figured finasteride would at least help me keep what i have and possibly grow a LITTLE back...which is mainly what i'd like to do, maybe add minx. in the mix if nessacary.

thanks guys.

Try it and find out.

Most of the people here that b**ch about minoxidil just don't know how to apply it. I use twice the normal dose of the stuff and after 15 minutes I can hardly even tell I put it on. Just make sure the stuff lands on the scalp and you should be golden. minoxidil actually makes my hair look and feel a lot thicker than it is.

yeah, ive heard varying things from different ppl, oh well. it's also that i just dont wanna make that kind of commitment to something like that, at least not YET. i'm just gonna order some proscar and cut it up and see what that does for me, if nothing in a year +, maybe ill throw minx in the mix. :-x

I am going to say "dont start with minoxidil". minoxidil is a secondary weapon when you need to REGROW hair. If you want to maintain right now, you need to get to hairloss at it's source. Eight months ago, I was at a point where I wanted to maintain. A derm put me on minoxidil, and I have been regretting that for a good 6 months now.

A good topical-only regimen is spironolactone + Revivogen

A good internal-only regimen is Finasteride only

A good topical/internal combo is Finasteride + spironolactone. (my choice)

A good addition to any regimen is Folligen.

but if u want to maintain *and* regrow, should u start using propecia and minoxidil at the same time?

Yes.

ok, does minoxidil cause flaking scalp for all users and to what extent? can u use minoxidil once before u go to sleep? reason i ask this is bcos lots of people seem to b complaining about it taking ages to dry.

finally, what does propecia + spironolactone give u extra that propecia by itself doesnt?

Minoxidil causes flaking in SOME folks. I never had an issue with it. Most times, using nizoral handles this issue.

Once a day will not optimize your ability to regrow.

Sprio is unproven in clinical trials but has some support in theory and from some users here. Consider it a possibly useful adjunct, not core to your routine.

Good luck

This is interesting Bruce, because we wenches are being told Finasteride is contraindicative in women (personally, I'm highly sceptical as to the truth of that statement) and that minoxidil and spironolactone will get the job done, as it were. Does spironolactone not have any clinical studies to corroborate its supposed efficacy in the treatment of male pattern baldness?

well just for a little update i ordered a 15 tab of Merck Proscar from http://www.inhousepharmacy.com, and am awaiting it to be shipped. Guess they said it takes about 7-14 days for me to receive it. Probably more towards 14 considering im in the states. Guess i'll see how i react...

My loss is mainly in the temples, front hair thinning/not growing......this should at least STOP the loss and have the possiblity of regrowing some of the hair, correct? i still have little hairs in the temples, baby hairs at that...

thx...

I LOVE the term, wenches! But that is another story!

I am not aware of any FDA type study re: topical spironolactone and growing hair. There are a few studies that I have send alluded to that support the theory of topical spironolactone. I THINK that Dr Lee has the cites and may even have them on this website.

I always had spironolactone in the maybe category to be used if first line drugs do not work or you cannot tolerate them.

I checked out that website http://www.inhousepharmacy.com for proscar also.
It was around $100 for 30 pills, Is that a good price for proscar compared to other websites?
Proscar is 5mg of finasteride, so in order to get 1mg which is in propecia, you would have to split it into fifths. Is that easy to do?
I guess you could split it into fourths, but I don't know if I want to take more than 1 mg. What effects could taking 1.25 mg have?
Any help would be appreciated.
