Calm down, mate. It's a fact that baseball derives from rounders, why would you think it's ridiculous? A lot of things in the US derive from Britain due to the fact it was colonised by Britain and many Americans can trace their ancestry back to Britain. The most obvious of which is the language. I've got nothing against America and from what I can see nobody else has, so there was no need for that tirade.

I'm not sure about hairloss products that have been developed in Britain, but plenty of drugs have been. One of the most important in modern times being penicillin. v**** was also discovered and developed in Britain!

To say that baseball lacks "appeal" mistakes the fact that it is elite. It only allows the most talented to participate. Secondly, I am sick of the whole "American's are cocooned" bullshit. It's just not true.

This is by far the funniest batch of sentences I have ever come across in this forums. Great work, Batman.

FYI-most Americans do not trace their ethnic roots back to your country, thank God.

I didn't say "most", I said "many". Practically all your presidents can trace their ancestry back to either Britain or Ireland. There aren't many who don't have Anglo Saxon names.

I have tried to stay out of this one but your obviously uneducated fool who has a serious hatred of Britain. Before you post again, why don't you do a little research about the history of your country and how it has developed over the last 1000 years.

And as for your idiotic comments of hairloss drugs and treatments only coming from the U.S, you need to do some more research as well. You will find that Merck who make propecia and proscar are a company that originated in Germany(the name is a bit of a give away). Also do little research on a company called Intercytex who are based in Britain and have a little read-up on what they are doing for the treatment of hairloss.

Next time you want to go bashing my country just have some mildly intelligent facts to back-up your poorly worded postings.

I have not read anyone who's actually responded to what I wrote. Everyone keeps mentioning how many more people play cricket than baseball in global terms. I don't care at all. Just because there's more people playing cricket in no way affects my argument. The fact of the matter is that if the talent of MLB was as diluted as cricket sounds, I wouldn't be speaking so highly of it. To say that baseball lacks "appeal" mistakes the fact that it is elite. It only allows the most talented to participate. Secondly, I am sick of the whole "American's are cocooned" bullshit. It's just not true. From what I know of the British, they are pretentious, worthless has-beens. You should come to grips with the fact that your country has sucked for about 200 years now. No one cares about you any more. I don't give a $#iT about rounders back in the 1600s. To imply that major league baseball lays its roots back in a bunch of scraggly-toothed Brits back in the 1600s is ridiculous. The fact that you have to go back to the 1600s is very telling about you guys. No one cares that you were powerful a long time ago. Get over yourselves and your small, cold, shitty island. Tony Blair was smart enough to latch onto America b'c he knows that's the only way you guys are going anywhere. Another relevent example is the hair loss industry. Do you see any products coming out of these other countries, i.e. Britain? No, the most and best come from America. To say you're "indifferent" to America shows your ingratitude, if not you're bitterness over the fact that we split from you guys and formed a far better country over here. To get back to the baseball topic, to say that "people only care about baseball in the US, Japan and Cuba" is so ignorant I will not even begin to tear apart the sheer stupidity of it. Do your research and you'll see about 20 different countries represented in MLB.

This gets my vote for the most ridiculous, ignorant post of 2005.

This poster also gets my vote for poster with the biggest chip on his shoulder.

EDIT: heard of GLAXO SMITH KLINE? Heard of Dutasteride. Work the rest out Einstein.

Listen guys, I admit I went over-board in bashing Britian. I don't really hate the country or the people, I just get very defensive about my country, as well as my sport, baseball. I play D1 baseball in the states. Anyways, I've been on this site for a while and I when I read threads likes this I usually think they're a waste of times for everyone involved. Sorry.

Typically American responses here...hahaha...

As IF baseball is anywhere near Cricket as far as a Global Competition goes. Where is it played apart from the Americas and Japan? It cracks me up that it's called "The World Series".

Same goes for American football VS Rugby. I've been playing rugby since I was about 8. I find the way American football players dance around and psyche up very amusing. Especially considering the ridiculous amount of body armour they are wearing! They look silly.

I love Cricket. Everyone watches it here all the time, it's massive. Warne is one of the most famous sportsmen in the world outside of America (and we all know for Americans, America IS the world). Hehehe.

Anyway. Just a bit of friendly ribbing. Don't take it too seriously lads. ;)

Fair play mate. We've got more in common than not. The fact you came up with your own sports is quite a British thing in itself, most of the top sports were devised in Britain such as football, golf, rugby, modern tennis, modern boxing (Queensbury Rules), modern field hockey etc. The English speaking nations are all pretty similar culturally due to our common heritage. If we didn't have cricket we would be playing baseball.

Biff,

Being picky here, but rugby actually traces it roots back to some sort of Viking ball game. It was only formaly recognised as a sport in the Rugby school in Britain (which is where it gets its name obviously). Back then the game consisted of a gigantic rolling maul and sometimes over 100 players in each team. Hahaha imagine that.

And here's some more rugby trivia for you AMERICANS... believe it or not, Rugby was an Olympic sport when the first modern Olympics were introduced way back when. The two super powers in rugby were France and ... wait for it ... America! The USA won back-to-back gold medals in rugby in front of crowds of over 100,000 people. There are still a handful of American Rugby Olympic Gold Medal winners alive today. Rugby was subsequently removed from the Olympics because the French fans almost tore the stadium down when the American underdogs won the second time around.

Believe it or not. :)

I believe it because it's true.

Btw, Rounders was the precursor to baseball.

I'm an American, and, admittedly, have never watched much cricket. On my last trip to England, however, I was able to catch the "ashes" 5 day test between England and Australia. I must say, I was impressed, very exciting, a lot of fun to watch. I can now say I maybe understand about 30% of the cricket rules!
