How long on finasteride before hair transplant? (pics included)

Just turned 26, I have been on finasteride for about 15 months, and minoxidil for 3-4 years. To the naked eye, I don't have hair loss really but if I pull back my hair you can see the corners are receeded, one moreso than the other (not mature hairline, male pattern baldness).

I started minoxidil when I very first saw any thinning on the crown and then got on finasteride when the minoxidil didn't seem to be enough to stop it. So right now, my crown is pretty much "restored" but corners have still slowly faded back.

I have had no side effects on finasteride (knock on wood), and I am fine getting work done knowing it most likely will need to be done in the future again since Im so young.

My question is, do I wait until a year and a half-2 years to see what happens? Then evaluate a hair transplant?

It really drives me crazy and I think I am ready to get work done. What do you all think?

Save your money, you don't need a hair transplant. I wish I had your hair though, lol.

You're in the same boat as me! The hair seems fine at first glance but the temples aren't strong enough to provide a frame for my face. It drives me nuts that at 27 I can't do anything with my hair.

I made a similar topic on another forum and there were some posters who were very vocal about how I'm a terrible candidate, don't waste your money, shock loss will make the rest of your hair fall out, etc.

I've been on finasteride for seven months and I'm not where I want to be. I would say wait until the 24 month mark, assess the situation, and if you're still not happy with it, go for a free consultation. No point in staying on finasteride only if you're not happy with your hair. I would assume you could get a "touch up" like celebrities do, and then ideally you'll keep the rest of your hair as long as you continue with finasteride / dutasteride. After all, that's what antiandrogens are for.

I would also like to hear an estimate on how much it might cost.

I do appreciate you saying that- ive mastered styling it right to cover up that left side but when its exposed that left side can look pretty bad (all perspective i guess)

Hey man- yeah i figure since the medication is a big factor with hair transplant, if i already am on it/haven't had sides- why not do hair transplant (assuming money isnt a factor)

I am slightly worried about the thought of filling in my corners and then if further recession happens and there are "gaps", but i guess more work would solve that?

One other thing i thought of is if i have fill in the corners, but then the finasteride stops working on my crown and it thins out- that could get ugly.

Im probably overthinking it, but im definitely interested in work on my corners if my hair stays like this up until the 2 year mark or so on finasteride

dude, be happy with what you got, your hair looks mint, and just looks like a mature hairline. Seriously, an hair transplant would be a waste right now, let finasteride run its course for 3-4 years and then reconsider your hair transplant.

Stick to the usual treatments before considering a hair transplant. Your hair currently looks really great and it would be possible to maintain this hair line with finasteride and co. for the next few years. After that you can think about a hair transplantation again. I think this should be in 5-10 years for you

Why would finasteride stop working? :D Hair counts after 10 years on finasteride tend to be even higher than baseline.
