How to Balance Exercise with Hair Loss

Being someone who can't use DHT blockers of any kind or Minoxidil i had to really try to figure out methods outside of medications or topicals to slow things down. And after many years of noticing patterns for when the hairloss is worse and better. I have come to the conclusion that low testosterone is infact the best way to naturally slow it down. But low testosterone, at least for me, increases anxiety and adrenal stress. gives high fatigue. Reduces endorphins to the point where you feel no drive to do anything. And all this really depresses me. And one of my goals over the years was to try and balance out endorphin boosting things like exercise and keeping hair loss at least a slow pace.

Does anyone have any tips? or ideas or ways in which you can work out in a balanced way that gives you a boost of endorphins? I would like to go to the gym but i don't want to speed hairloss up. Again i can't use meds, topicals or DHT blockers of any kind so those are out of the question.

Limiting stress by avoiding alcohol, processed food and exerting yourself is the best way to slow hair loss down naturally. Walking is the least stressful form of exercise, going to the gym and eating a stupid amount of calories + pumping your body with protein shakes to try and look bigger is unhealthy.

Man, you don’t need to overthink it workouts won’t kill your hair if you keep them balanced. Go for walking, cycling, swimming, or light weights to get that endorphin boost without stressing your body too much. Avoid going too hard with intense training every day. Eat well with enough protein, omega-3s, vitamin D, zinc, and iron. Sleep and stress control matter a lot too. Even yoga or meditation can help keep things steady.

I developed severe dermatitis / dandruff post-covid and worsening when using alcohol / pg products.

But it improved with 2.5% selenium sulfide shampoo + betamethasone 0.1% 1x -2x / week.

Helped clear it a bit, then added topicals.

Currently on fluridil + pyri + min foam. Decent regrowth, been on min 6+ months.

Going to the gym and using protein shakes won't make you lose hair and neither is it unhealthy ffs.

Facts ,

You’ve been on here since 05, what’s your stack and do you have decent density?

I’m going to disagree. There is definitely a connection with working out > testosterone > DHT and hair loss.

It’s definitely healthy. But if you have male pattern baldness it’s probably not going to be the most beneficial to your hair.

The gym spikes your cortisol, this can trigger Telogen Effluvium. Evidence suggests that strength training spikes DHT levels, moderate cardio lowers DHT levels. The healthiest form of exercise is walking.

Protein shakes are unhealthy, they contain synthetic ingredients, they're ultra processed slop lmao. Just eat a steak.

There's organic options that don't use artificial sweeteners you know, if that's a concern of yours

I went to the gym a day ago and tried to do a light workout. Next day scalp was itchy and tingly which is never a good sign. It’s the male pattern baldness itch. Maybe there really is no way to balance the 2 out.

your head is itchy after working out because inflammation but moreso because theres sebum under the skin on your scalp and when you sweat its irritating. even if you have single digit T and eat a perfect diet you’ll still occasionally get an itchy scalp because you have to manually loosen the sebum/“dandruff” with scalp massage

since everyone who uses this board has learning disabilities i need to clarify that i’m not suggesting this as an end all be all solution, rather a vital ingredient to a banger hair regimen, and an ingredient that directly addresses scalp itch

I didn’t sweat the gym. It was that light of a workout.

But I know for a fact that for me at least a scalp massage actually makes my hair greasy and even more itchy. So I’m guessing my scalp is sensitive to sebum in general. Scalp inflammation does come with it. Infact any oil or moisuture makes my scalp itch and thin out. I think its one of the reason nioxin shampoo works so well for me because its incredibly drying.
