My temples and hairline have improved alot, but the overall density or thickness of my hair seems lifeless and nappy and very thin. I have gone through quite a shed. My hair was very thick before treatment but now very thin. Could the thickness comeback? I have been on minoxidil since July and have been on finasteride for about 6 months now. The shedding seemed to make my hair diffused and patchy, It looks almost like I have T-E or something. Before treatment I just had a receded hairline, now I look like a diffuse thinner. I still keep a postitive attitude. The only thing that keeps my mind off it is shaving my head with either a #1 or a zero. Thank god I look decent with a shaved head or I would be screwed.

from my understanding, thickness never comes back.. you'll never have the dense hair as you did when you were younger.

fortunatly for you!! your hairline and temples improved!! you should be exited!! doesnt matter how dense your hair is as long as you have coverage.

Well the temples and hairline improved, quite abit, but my hair shed so bad it looks very patchy like I have diffused or have T-E. Before treament I had no diffuse thinning at all. My shedding has stopped, so yes I would say it has been effective, but the first four months or so were hell. I am not a religious guy, but I may start praying and hope that I have alot of hair in a resting phase.

EBOW, no one can say for sure whether or not your hair will come back thicker, only time will tell. But IMHO I believe there's a reasonable chance. 6 months is still pretty early in the game for finasteride. Remember that when a hair is shed the follicle lies dormant for 3 months before it even starts to grow back. It may repeat this cycle several times before it becomes noticeable. Just hang in there man, stick with your routine rigidly, and don't do anything rash. There's a good chance things will slowly improve over the next 6 months.

Hey thanks for replying Pob. Thanks for the encouragement. I sure hope things do improve. Shedding is a difficult thing. The shedding has stopped though. I am hoping that the hairs that shed, are just truely in a resting phase. Has anyone recovered from a shed that almost looked like a bad case of diffuse thining or T-E?

eBOW,
you got some good advice from Pob there. Expect a general thickening of your hair within the next 6 months. It's tough recovering from a shed. Not everyone gets one. But, the good news is, there's light at the end of the tunnel.

Stay consistent, and give us some pictures!

I am hoping that the hairs that shed, are just truly in a resting phase. Has anyone recovered from a shed that almost looked like a bad case of diffuse thinning or T-E?

I'm exactly at the three month point with finasteride and minoxidil. I'm a diffuse thinner with some temple recession.

During most of the 3 months, the amount of hairs I've lost in the shower has seemed the same as what I lost before treatment. However, although I've been losing hair very slowly over the last few years, I now have a few visible coin shaped areas of scalp that seemed to have worsened since treatment. I guess this puts me in a similar position to you. I'm beginning to think I may have suffered increased shedding since treatment.

However, literally in the last few weeks, the amount of hair I can see falling has substantially decreased. I'm very excited about this as it seems a sure sign I'm beginning to respond. Strangely, I even the like the fact that I may have experienced a shed, as again, this is a sign of possibly responding.

I feel that I may have turned a corner now, and I'm hopeful that I will start to see a gradual improvement over the next 6 months. And should feel the same, eBOW.

Hang in there bro. It's a long, slow, ride but it seems we both have reasons to be optimistic.
