I am losing hairs at an unrealistically fast rate. Almost cartoonish. But all blood tests are coming out normal and my derm is saying that it is male pattern baldness without really examining anything. Losing about 500 hairs per day approx.

I posted this pic last week where I cleaned out all the fallen hairs on my hair in the shower to the point where not a single hair would fall off and then took another shower about 6 hours later.

This was the result: https://imgur.com/a/kGMDFVW

Everyday I am losing the same amount in the showers, and way more than this outside of shower like at work, school on pillows literally anytime I move my head hairs fall off. Went from thick NW1 to diffusing NW6 in 8 months months it doesnt make any sense, I have never seen male pattern baldness go this fast with anyone else.

This is the amount of hairs I lost in shower yesterday and today, less than 24 hours apart.

Yesterday: https://imgur.com/a/HIbhZ0H
Today : https://imgur.com/a/KeJ5Loj

My scalp is becoming more visible by the day. I dont understand, isnt male pattern baldness something that occurs for years before you go bald. Is there a good chance I have telogen effluvium and not male pattern baldness or is this type of hairloss normal for people who bald agressively. The frustrating thing is that no derm will even consider the fact that it could be something other than male pattern baldness because my dad was NW7 at my age. I think maybe hair transplant clinics are more knowledgeable in this field and am looking to go to one and see if I can get a scalp biopsy done.

I don't think it is male pattern baldness. It is something different. Try second opinion. No body can go from NW1 to NW6 in 8 months.it is insane. May be you have something other condition which is accelerating your hairfall.

Well, you can give finasteride a shot.

Man, I feel really, really, really f*****g sorry for you. :'( Is there anyway any of us on this forum can help you, mentally? You 're probably the most aggressive case I've ever seen. Usually people go to NW6/7 over 5-10 years, not 6 months. Please reach out to someone on this forum.

Man, I almost cried reading your post :'(. I can't imagine the trauma you're undergoing right now. .

Yeah this has basically taken over all my thoughts for the last 6 months or so. I am on Finasteride for a bit over a month now but no signs of slow down in hairloss yet but im stayinf hopeful. Thing is im a diffuse thinner so im not fully nw6 yet, its just that under the light that is the pattern of diffuse that is happpening. Hopefully the big 3 can atleast help me maintain for a while and if this still fucks qith me mentally while im older I can maybe do a transplant or something but obviously not anytime in near future im still 21.

Yeah its NW6 diffuse pattern. Not completely NW6 yet but all the NW6 scalp areas are visible. Both my family doctor and derm are saying male pattern baldness but they havent even checked anything. Its so frustrating that we go to these doctors for help and sometimes even they dont know how to diagnose something. I asked my derm if shes positive that its male pattern baldness and she said "i think so".

DHT is strong with you in this one. Better take a DHT blocker like finasteride before it's too late

The funny thing is, ive been on finasteride for over a month now. Back around december I was already contemplating going on finasteride because my hairline was thinning. But I thought oh its just normal and I dont mind a receded hairline anyways so I let it go. Then around april the clumps of hair started falling but I thought It would be temporary and left it. Around early June i lost way too much density and there was no signs of hairfall stopping so I got on finasteride. Been on finasteride for a bit over a month and so far it hasnt made a difference but staying hopeful.

Are you using Minoxidil? If you just started Minoxidil (within the last 1-2 months) this can cause Telogen Effluvium. Some people (like me) literally get much thinner when first starting.

I tried using minoxidil back in december. I couldnt keep up with it and I dont think I was using it properly in hindsight. I only applied a bit to my hairline. But maybe it is telogen effluvium? The hairs that im losing arents super thin or anything. A lot of them are still very thick.

It is definitely a Telogen Effluvium--you can see the white bulbs on the hair in your pics. Some people report this happening with a month-3 months of Finasteride. I think I will be safe since Minoxidil caused a Telogen Effluvium for me, but who knows.

You need more than finasteride for this.
It's like finding out you have stage 3 cancer and then being like "I'll start eating vegan".
That's not gonna cut it.

Well this was all happening before I even started finasteride. I was on 0 medication when this shed started. I hope it is Telogen Effluvium because that means it will all grow back right? From what I read its not uncommon for Telogen Effluvium to last over 4 months so it could be it. Also in most of the hairs I dont really see white bulbs. Maybe they are just really small.

What else can I do? I thought the big 3 was supposed to drastically slow down hairloss. Im getting more and more convinced that theres something else other than male pattern baldness involved. And I cant get avodart/dutasteride in canada.

Sorry mate, but the derms are correct. You sound like a mirror image of your dad and you're gonna end up the same way unless you get on a super agressive regime to do something about it.

Oh yes they can. Id say no one at 30 could have a heart attack or be addicted to eating drywall but it happens. Anything is possible in the body because its complicated and we barely understand how any of it connects together just because its hard to do.
Could male pattern baldness happen in 6 months from Norwood 1 to Norwood 6? Yes. Rare certainly but possible

You can order Avodart online. I would use Finasteride for 6 months before adding Duasteride (and I would only add this twice a week to the Finasteride). You can also add a Caffeine shampoo. Unfortunately this needs a strong stomach to continue onward. If you are actually balding you can add low dose oral Minoxidil (2.5mg per day).

Honestly, after looking more into it, I am starting to believe that I have Telogen Effluvium because of a few things.

In december I had a real bad stressful event happen to me and nearly killed myself. Then around April the hairloss started in clumps. Its been going at the same rate since april. The hairs that are falling are still thick and have not miniaturized at all. Also my family has 0 history of diffuse hairloss. Even my dad who was NW6 didnt have diffuse hairloss like me, he receded from the hairline all the way to the back but my hairline is still pretty much the same as it was before shedding. Other balding people in my family say they never lost 300+ hairs per day in their life and that seems crazy to them even though they are balding. Ontop of all that, I have been on finasteride over a month and there is 0 signs of any improvement in the shedding. The hairs that are falling still look healthy and full too. The only thing is that not all of them have a white bulb on them which makes me unsure. Telogen Effluvium lasts on average 6 months right, I have only been shedding for 4 months so its gonna be interesting to see if this is male pattern baldness or Telogen Effluvium.
