Im not sure but i have heard people getting sides from 1mg then cutting down to 0.25mg and having none,Im just hoping this will be the case for me.

At the moment, I'm trying to gently break into the finasteride routine. I wrote in a thread that I'm going the once every other day route. I feel OK so far, I have very slight feeling in my balls but nothing compared to when I was taking one pill a day. The social disconnection effects are also very mild, nothing that causes me to lose control.

I'll keep taking one pill every other day for now, when I feel 100% OK with it I'll start taking .5mg a day.

Maybe you can try the same and see how you handle it.

What exactly are "social disconnection effects"?

read the second post in the following thread viewtopic.php?f=46&t=46950

My case wasn't so extreme, but I was very calm when I was on full dose. Nothing wrong with being calm, but I have a job to do and I was just not bothered to do anything about it. In a way, I had a lack of motivation and I was sort of "out of it".

I didn't feel drunk or like a zombie, in contrast I had a very clear mind but I was just not bothered to do anything.

I'm doing fine right now. After a week of every other day, I switched to .25mg daily and I have no sides.

The side effects of finasteride are supposed to go away with time, maybe I've past that stage without experiencing major sides. As I said, when I was on full dose, ie 1mg, for a week, my testicular pain was getting annoying. I don't feel any sides at the moment.

Bryan what do you think of starting at like .125mg for a while just to see how your body reacts and very gradually increasing the dose to .25mg or something like that since its been debated whether 1mg is even really needed. If .2mg is enough as they approved in other countries and some scientists have agreed with lower dosages you could theoretically start at less then .125mg and maybe your body can adjust all the effected hormones more easily.

We need another real treatment other then propecia. Changing all these hormones is beyond what we understand at the moment we need a better way like a topical with proof it works.

Sure, it makes good sense to me to start with really minimal doses first...

Well Bubka not all of us can happily pop a pill that changes hormones we do not understand. I mean long term who on earth knows what that does you better hope our biological model merk scientists dreamed up works as they suspect. I also hope merk scientists figure out why finasteride does not decrease body hair more then it does. It certainly sounds like we have a firm grasp on the workings of DHT in the body. Of course theres plenty more then DHT that changes when you pop that magic pill. I personally would rather lose hair then chance an awful lot of other things that as of now im perfectly happy with especially if I dont even have male pattern baldness.

What the hell does that mean?

You don't have male pattern baldness, then why are you do you "HOPE" you find these answers about finasteride?

Not to threadjack, but I had a few questions along these lines.

I just got 1000 hair transplants on the hairline (strip), and while I've been using rogaine foam for around 1 year, I am thinking about getting on Finasteride. I am definitely a workout fanatic, and the estrogen thing does scare me. I'm thinking about going the .25 mg route, I also have AI's on hand if estrogen does increase.

One thing I haven't really been able to get a definitive answer on is whether Finasteride merely affects scalp DHT, or if it affects DHT in the muscle. While testosterone is the dominant hormone in muscle, I know DHT works in the body as an estrogen antagonist. I'm assuming this is why estrogen sides develop, but I seem to read conflicting information on this point.

Thanks to all on this board, I'm pretty excited to start seeing my transplants grow, and it would be great if I could add even more with finasteride, specifically on my temples (although that may be wishful thinking).

Why's that? I have some, can start taking now, I'm just worried about messing with my hormones.

Because, if you have proper male pattern baldness, the grafts will stay and the rest of the hair will miniaturise and die without some DHT-inhibiton, as it would have done if you didn't have the hair transplant.

K, so I guess I'll start taking- will .25 be enough? I'm also using rogaine foam all over, which I feel has helped somewhat. Anyone have any comments on inhibition of DHT and effects on muscle? I read something that said Finasteride mostly inhibited scalp DHT?

I'm so effing glad I didnt get pain in my balls. I've been dealing a little with loss of libido, but it's probably psychosomatic, because when the girlfriend is ready to go, so am I :) I just feel vaguely less sexual and I think about sex A LOT LESS. Again, prob psychosomatic, but I do honestly feel as though I ruminate about sex significantly less. No problems with performance/erection/etc yet.

Exactly, even the hair transplant hairs are subject to miniturization. Ever seen a full blown WW7 male, he is plenty thinned out and miniaturized even in the donor area. Finasteride will help stop that.
