So let's say you inherit your balding gene from your mom who has diffused thinned with her hairline still intact. Now as most of us know ladies usually don't go to the point of full baldness. Does this mean that the son will lose his hair the same way? Like only diffuse thin and not go full on bald?

Most likely you might take after your mom's father( or brother if she has one) if you are talking about the X chromosome you got from your mom.

My mom has 3 brothers. Two are 60 and they started to receed when they were 44 or so (they are twins) one is 43 still a norwood 1 I have mainly inherited his looks, hair type color etc.. So the mom doesn't matter then in terms of baldness?

Hard to go by a female when you are male. I would go by just your mom's father and the brothers and your dad's pattern, his brothers, and their father. But honestly, you will just have to hope for the best.

Which shoulf I focus on more? I mean I know it's like lottery. Because I've got a few cousins who have bald dads but got maternal uncles with great hair and they followed the same pattern as them.

Op you can follow your uncle more, as opposed to your mom according to the study published by US vs meridith 2007; article 2-5, 3. Now get off this site and enjoy your life.

I think the only way you can be sure (if even that) that you WONT go bald is if ALL men on ur fathers side and mothers side has a lot of hair. If there is one baldie here and there there is always a chance that you also will.

There's one bald person in my entire family, no one else has progressed past a Norwood 3 yet I look to be taking after the baldy. Absolute bullshit

Hahaha yes that's brilliant. My great uncle is a Norwood 6. The only bald person in my entire family out of 20+ people. Brilliant, knew I was taking after that wanker. My mother doesn't have any brothers, only one sister yet my grandmother has a brother who is norwood 6 so I know who I'm taking after now.

Yes. My grandmother's brother so my great maternal uncle. Everyone's hair in my family is dark but my hair does seem to be the same colour and texture as my uncle yes. f*****g brilliant, funny how everyone on here gave me sh*t for being a 'Norwood 1, full head' even though I'm clearly not

19 and probably a Norwood 2 although the right side of my hairline seems to be waving bye bye at the minute.

So you are not even near bald and still think you got the bad gene? You say most men don't go more than nw3 in your family, perhaps thats the case for you too?

Yes I know where you're coming from mate but my hair is nothing like my fathers so I can't be taking after him. Not to mention he didn't progress into a 2 until he was 30 so I'm many years ahead of the game. His brother on the other hand.. is a thinned out Norwood 3 but again, my hair is nothing like his. They have very coarse, straight hair. Mine is wavy with a natural pompadour look. That leaves me with my grandmother's side of the family where the balding is present. Thanks for taking the time to read and reply by the way pal.

When I got 18-19 my juveline hairline turned into a mature hairline causing me to get to a nw2. I'm soon 28 and still a nw2 (with some slight thinning at the left corner). So you may very well keep your nw2 for at least 10 more years.

I really do hope so. If I could maintain for that long there's a chance I might beat male pattern baldness with upcoming treatments. What Norwood were you destined to be and I'm assuming you're takjng finasteride etc now?
