minoxidil 5% 3x is equal to Xandrox 15% 1x?

Old Baldy,

Yes, I realize now that you have to be very precise with Bryan, which is not a bad thing, in most cases, because he is a valuable resource on this Forum!

It is nice to have someone on here with his level of knowledge to challenge forum members' thoughts and ideas in addition to providing much needed educational information to help the forum members as a whole.

Keep on truckin' fellas!

lac,
You are correct. If Bryan is not 100% sure he won't say about anything. Not only that unless scientifically proven even if he has a pretty good idea about what might work, he is unlikely to state. He would have made a good professor or scientist imo.

I pour out 36 mL which leaves me with 24 mL of solution . 5% of that 24 mL is minoxidil so i have 1.2 mL of minoxidil . now i add 36 mL of alcohol so i have a 60 mL bottle of new solution with 90% alcohol and 1.2 mL of minoxidil .
100*1.2/60=2% .
That's how i did it . is there a mistake in my calculation ?

I think so, yes. It looks like you're right about the 2% minoxidil, but wrong about the alcohol content.

If you start with 24 mL of the Kirkland solution, there's only 0.3 x 24 = 7.2 mL of alcohol in that. If you then add 36 mL of pure alcohol, you have a TOTAL alcohol content of 7.2 + 36 = 43.2 mL. Since the total volume of the solution is once again 60 mL, that means the alcohol content is only 43.2 / 60 = 0.72 = 72%, not 90%.

it's 72% alcohol of course . i got confused . never mind . i'm going to go through with this anyway . i got it in my head that the reason my results with minoxidil were so minor is because poor absorption and 72% alcohol is better than 30% .

Hey just wanted to report back my hair is still coming in pretty solid. No big sheds to report... Still doing 2ml minoxidil twice daily.

@ Bryan, I know after some time propecia becomes not as effective in combating DHT. Since I've been using finasteride for well over 6 years, do you think I should up the dosage anytime soon? I would hate to wait until my hair starts falling...

How do you know that after some time, Propecia becomes not as effective in combatting DHT? Please explain.

Just reading forum posts about studies done. I read here --> http://www.regrowshair.com/non-surgical- ... ecia-last/ that it will gradually decrease over time.

So I'm guessing you don't think this is the case? Should I just stick to 1/4 Fincar?

I think there are two different issues here that are being confused. If finasteride and dutasteride gradually lost their ability to inhibit 5a-reductase and lower DHT as the years go by, don't you think we would have _all_ heard about it by now? :) But there have been long-term studies of finasteride over at least five years, and there is no hint, not even a suspicion (as far as I know) that it gradually becomes less effective at reducing DHT.

But that doesn't mean that the fundamental balding process itself may not eventually overtake the partial reduction in DHT that you get with those drugs. As hair follicles age and get more sensitive to androgens, haircounts may start to slip a little over the years, despite the fact that DHT is still being lowered by the same amount. That may be annoying, but you can take some solace in the fact that it would be even much WORSE, without the finasteride! As I've said many times on hairloss sites, the difference in haircounts between finasteride users and placebo users continues to INCREASE over the years, it doesn't DECREASE.

Thats an interesting one and makes perfect sense. I always thought it was inevitable that this drug would lose effect over time. I believed the body had the ability to correct such chemical imbalances brought on my such drugs and would eventually develope tollerance. Hence why side effects disappear for some users. Your right however there isnt strong enough evidence to suggest that finestride loses its power over time. Its more likelly that the balding process steps up a gear that finasteride can no longer overcome. Even so how is it drugs like pain killers and anti depressant lose there effect over time and how can finasteride be any different?

Thanks Bryan,

yeah my initial thought was your body slowly building up a tolerance like so many other drugs as well. Guess I'll have to ride this out and see what happens...

Well my hair is coming in stronger and stronger. I switched over to 3X 1ml 5% minoxidil twice daily and I'm continuing to see great results. Got a great compliment the other day on my hair, which is probably the first one ever. My only concern right now is that I'm starting to see hair(starting to get darker) forming under neither my eyes. I'm thinking it might be from the minoxidil getting on my pillow and transferring over to my face. Any thoughts on this?
