Hey guys.

I'm 23 and have got slight recession but mainly thinning in the frontal third and particularly in the temples. It's been on it's way for a long time but i had a massive period of denial thanks to both grandfathers and father having good hair. But it's accepted now, and i'm trying to battle it.

I've been on 5% minoxidil for around 2 months, and my hair is responding surprisingly well, which is nice. However, just my luck, it seems that i'm getting sides. I'm having what appears to me to be water retention all over the body, including the face.

Now, I've read from some other forum areas that water retention from minoxidil can even itself out and become less of a problem with increased use. Could anyone clarify this information? Or share their experiences, similar or related? Also, would a drop from 5% to 2% help? And would that drop affect my regrowth progress at all?

Hopefully I can figure where i'm at and where to go. I would be devastated if i had to stop using minoxidil because it's really given me a lifeline.

Thanks.

It's may also be worth mentioning that I only apply the minoxidil once a day too.

Thanks again, guys!

I've been using it twice a day for nearly 3 years. And luckily have no sides from it.
I guess the only thing you can do is wait it out and see if it passes. Or if not lower the dose. Maybe you could just use half a dose to the areas that need it most?
Stemyoxidine is a potential alternative if you must discontinue using it. Its effectiveness is debated tho. Personally I use it, but I don't know how well it works since I mix RU58841 into mine.
You should also get on a dht inhibitor too, if not already. If you don't want to go the oral route maybe think about trying a topical.

Hey, man! Thanks for the advice, and sorry for taking ages to respond.

I'm trying to use as little as possible currently, considering dropping to the 2% if it worsens. I'll continue with it and monitor my situation closely and try and figure out whats going on. I'm quite a hypochondriac with this sort of thing so I'm trying to be as practical about it and try and not let my mind imagine things that aren't there! But I have read those who respond the best are also most subject to side effects, so I'll have to wait and see for now.

As for DHT inhibitors, I've toyed with the idea for nearly a year now, but I'll be honest the nightmare stories regarding sides are the thing that scares me off it. I wont rule it out in the future but I'd need to make sure i'm confident if i go down the oral DHT inhibitor route. But it's good advice to consider topical, I'll do some research into the options, thank you!

What you can do if you don't want to adjust dosage is this:
-Drink more water.
-Do at least moderate intensity workouts.
-Saunas are great for it. Especially on a regular schedule.
-Take diuretics.
-less sodium intake

Make sure you're careful with applications and that it's dry if you use it before bed.
