So Follica recently retweeted this article that was shared by a dermatologist.

More middle-aged men are getting cosmetic procedures done because they want to look good for events like their daughters' weddings and what not.

Here are some comments:

"Plastic surgery of any kind makes you less of a man. Unless you had severe injuries from combat or accidents, leave your mug be." — truthnaplam

• "Dads at the midlife crisis point want to look good when making their debut at the gay clubs" — Usmellbad

• "Yeah, maybe gay dads." — ohlil

The only positive comment in this whole thing is some bot telling me I can get rich working from home. Overall the attitude reflects what we see everywhere: Only gay men would care about their appearance. No doubt that a lot of these commentators are fat, balding, hairy, lazy shitbags.

I truly can't wait to see what the attitude towards men who use Follica's product will be initially and in the years following.

It won't be the same perception. Hair restoration may be cosmetic, but you're getting put back what you used to have naturally and lost due to genetic problems. I really don't think it's a nuanced take to say that's a lot different than say getting breast implants because you can't accept other women inherited better assets. We all started on a somewhat equal playing field with regards to hairloss. That's just my 2 cents though..

Bullshit, men are getting cosmetic procedures at historic rates. If a cure or treatment comes out it will make a fortune and then Amazon will buy it.

It's funny, but also alarming. They are taking over everything. It's about time for an anti-trust suit.

Gender double standards...

Then again a lot of unconscious men have been tricked into thinking looks completely dont matter that a woman should like them for them which in part is true but, when they are faced with the same situation revert to looks all the same the woman has to be stunning to them. I used to work in a restaurant and when I asked why we had to add parsley and that lettuce leaf when it's just a waste nobody eats the lettuce its just for looks and to make the plate pretty my boss told me "people eat with their eyes". Same applies here if the food doesn't look good who's going to be trying it? F$%& those negative comments dad equality!

Opinions are like assholes... everybody has one. I'm in this sh*t for my own quality of life. If sh*t makes me happy I'll do it.

Female infanticide has happened is probably still happening somewhere.

in historical societies with caloric deficit, the most valuable sex for reproduction is the one that needs to be limited. because the tribe can't afford newborns, that's what explains the practices of some desert tribes (like arabia before islam).

in societies with caloric equilibrium or surplus (modern humans), women are more valuable for survival and expansion.

Do you feel oppressed because of this?

Gender double standards...
!

I dont know about that I have read a lot of blow back from women about women who get fillers...they smear it as if its all 'bad' meanwhile 'good' work is unnoticeable so they make women afraid to go get work done because a face lift will make them look 'pulled' the boob job will be 'fake' the lip filler will look like 'duck lips' botox will make you 'frozen'
its all bullshit none of it is true unless the person and the Dr they choose wants that fake over done look (some do).

I just think plastic surgery and dermatological procedures in general have a bad rap. I also think its a class thing..men in upper class of economics get work done and are not ashamed of it the way a blue collar person will be--and same is said for women...its like this 'guilt' about taking care of their looks.

This is not Star Trek or a sci-fi movie. It's a male-dominated society. Way.

He's correct when he says that men's problems are taken less seriously.

Furthermore, just because men are more often found at the top of society or most professions doesn't mean that everything is great for the average man. It doesn't mean we as men have societal advantages either - there is such a thing as sexual dimorphism. In fact, it's one of the reasons we're all losing our hair on this board.

Men and women are different, so don't expect equal outcomes.

I'm sure women have a hard time with stuff like this also don't get me wrong I know their is more then just the men's side lol but in this situation its, in my opinion, definitely a double standard. The guys like Usmellbad and others with negative comments are probably the guys who need that little upkeep in the first place but are convinced they don't because "men aren't supposed to be pretty only gay men worry about their looks heh heh". These guys are also the men that wouldn't hesitate to convince their wives/partners she needs a tit job or needs to lose weight even tho they themselves look like an ogre. Their imbisiles.

Theres nothing wrong with wanting to look good. And getting cosmetic stuff done IMO is no different from getting a hair transplant. I personally have used botox around my eyes since I was about 27. And a couple of years ago I had restylane in my mid face and tear troughs. Im quite open about it and ive never been criticized for it, infact ive had alot of people really curious about it because they realise its not a bad thing. Im in good shape and when you hit the over 30 mark you start to lose fat volume in your face, and if you are fit or thin it can make you look gaunt.
Its only weird when its noticeable, like when guys go and get filler in their cheeks and end up with the inflated chipmunk look. Vladimir Putin is a good example of how you can look like a chipmunk if you get too much put in.

most of that sh*t is merely competition anxiety, people don't like others doing anything that gives them a leg up, but more importantly, reminds the other person that there is a competition ongoing.

This is one of those strawmen situations I was talking about in a topic recently, when men or women are treated a certain way so guys on here exaggerate that if the gender roles were reversed it would be the exact opposite. It's total bullshit (not necessarily the OP but the replies so far).

Yeah because women with surgery are praised and lauded in the streets! They come out of the surgeon to a parade of people cheering and throwing confetti from the balconies!

Women are definitely shamed over surgery. The only socially acceptable exceptions being Botox, but it's still hardly embraced, and boob jobs, which gets a neutral reaction which is case by case.

Anything else is shamed, women love bitching about how Megan Fox, Kate Beckinsale and Jennifer Aniston have had "touches up" (phrase used somewhat sarcastically for major surgeries) on their nose, jaw, etc. and aren't natural beauties. "She's so beautiful! Thank her surgeon".

Women who do come out and admit their surgeries are only praised if fairly unattractive, like Sharon Osbourne or Joan Rivers (in old age). In these cases their honesty is somewhat celebrated, but if it's an attractive celebrity or even a normal girl down the street, women always need to ensure it wasn't genetics that got her looking this way.

Now, as shamed as men are? Men do get it worse for being "pathetically vain", but plastic surgery is not applauded for either gender.
