i think the reactions are a little bit skewed because, hell, the guys are being followed around by a camera crew for the sole purpose of documenting their baldness. obviously the people at the parties etc are going to make a bigger deal of it because that's the whole point of the cameras.

anyway, i think the second guy looked fine with short hair, he needs to lose the sunglasses though, that just screams insecurity...

he looks pretty f'in normal like lots of other balding 20-somethings, it's actually pretty common, and i don't think he looks much older than his age

I think I'm going to write a letter to MTV about this. I'm sure that someone had to come to MTV who used the big 3 and had success but MTV just ignored them because they wanted a better story.

The guy who got the transplant turned out alright, apparently. :dunno: They were only filming this show for a short amount of time, making it hard to document anyone's success on the big 3 which can take years to see hardly noticeable changes. IOW, not exiting enough for tv.

Thanks for posting this.... the vids weren't very informative, but were very entertaining.


Considering how odd this program was, I'm convinced that it was either sponsored by Dr. Rose or a group of transplant surgeons. It would explain why they wouldn't mention propecia or any other effective alternatives to surgery. They did touch on rogaine foam at the beginning but the guy was only using that and nothing else. Of course we all know that rogaine used alone is only a temporary solution.

The other alternative they mentioned was the bogus fungus theory. Seriously, that whole thing with the mother coming down the stairs and mentioning how someone "at work" told her you can lose your hair through a fungus seemed completely staged. I'm sure one of the producers just told her to say that and then they sent the poor guy to the homeopathic doctor knowing full well that it wouldn't work.

Apparently, the only solution that works is a hair transplant. And they showed footage of the guy acting all giddy now that he would get his hair back through surgery. Of course, they didn't show the actual end result or the issues that will arise when he continues to lose the rest of his hair.

So the lesson they want us to learn from the program is that all hair loss treatments aside from hair transplants are bogus. It's fitting how they also don't want to feature someone who just accepts going bald. Instead, they have guys who are insecure with their looks and they throw them into situations that will show their insecurity which we can relate to, like the party scenes and the scene with the group of friends playing video games.

I dont think so, Rose is'nt big enough to sponser an entire MTV show. If a hair transplant surgeon was going to spend that kind of money they'd just run a tv ad and it would be aimed at their target audience not teens watching MTV.
Maybe they did'nt mention Propecia because theres some kind of rule banning them from promoting/endorsing a drug.
It never said the only solution was a hair transplant but it only offered 2 possible solutions, and we all know that the homeopathic crap was never going work.
The show was an insight into how it effects some (young) people and although most men do just deal with it most are not suffering it at such a young age.

The best hairloss documentary I ever saw was a few years ago on BBC called 'I Hate My Bald Head'. Follows this 26 or so year old guy, he went from a NW3 to NW6 in 6 months, proper horse shoe and it's like a personal diary, he even checks in to see Dr Feller while he's in London, wears a wig, tries rogaine etc..

Yeah thats the best one I've seen aswell, probably because it was actually concieved and made by a young bald guy, as a documentry not as entertainment.

Although I thought the end message was abit contrived, I dont believe that he found acceptance the way he claimed he had, I think he just figured that was the only way for him to end the programme on a positive note.

Rather depressing tbh - the ignorant towards baldness is scarey really and shows like this dont do much to help either. The guy got a dud hair transplant and was somehow delighted which was extremely confusing?

As for the guy with a model brother with perfet hair, well this situation isn't that dissimlar to my own. Im the only balding person in my family and im also the one who looks "different". Basically im from my mums side whereas my other two brothers are strongly from my dad's side. So ive dealt and deal with BS like this "you's dont look like brothers"...."YOU look different to them". Weirdly some people think we do look alike though, but for the most part im not clearly related basically. I try not to take it personal though im still a decent looking guy in my own right even with baldness.

As for the situation where the guy got it tough at a party, these situations are f*****g tough and certainly not rare or anyones imagination. I know im not near as bald as that guy yet but ive experienced similar situations and ive blown right through them. Example that guy walks in and unfortunately stood out and this made him uncomfortable (understandably) from the outset. What i would do is force myself through this point (eg. of standing up and being a spectical on the issue) sit down, remain in good humor, be a good conversationalist and convey good persona and confidence. Believe it or not this is VERY achievable. Extreme example but can you imagine a charismatic Jack Nickelson being thrown off by a comment from some tramp? If anything he would turn the situation into one that automatically shows he's "bigger and more important than that impression" and immedicaly would become intruiging and attractive.

Im not going ot pretend that guy could have sat down and all of a sudden been the stud of the party but he could have commanded respect and acceptance which in turn and in numbers created the chance ot become attractive to other girls (girls are sad and look for social proof....you have to work harder for this in a scenario like his but it is possible).

All in all, that show was original (i guess) but didn't live up to its billing. Maybe they though the truth is boring in many aspects?

Watching this made me feel so sorry for the dude with the hair transplant. His hair post-op looks fake as sh*t, and anyone with common sense could tell his head was carved up. You gotta think this guy clearly wasn't that educated on hair loss since he was so convinced before the hair transplant that he was gonna get his hair back. It was sad watching him dance around the parking lot. hair transplant's don't work dude. They only give you that flimsy, weak pubic hair that is currently resting on your skull. It'll hit him in about a year or two what a mistake he made and how much money he threw away.

He should've just shaved it all off. With a tan and a gym membership, he would still be a good-looking guy. .

MTV ran this BS again on one of their subsidiary channels the other day, and I was just curious to see if there was a thread on here somewhere that blasted the show for its lack of knowledge and the poor message it sent to the public about baldness... Thankfully, I was right. I don't think I've been so furious about an hour of television since Jersey Shore went off the air.

Waste of time. Why do I care about the story of some random guy? Im well aware of everything without watching it. Then they wonder why so many people drop cable. What really is ever on it worth watching? I think guys with tan and muscles look stupid. Its all just personal opinion in the end and not everyone will ever think the same.
