I got two questions for you guys, but first here's some background to help. I'm 6 feet tall and last june I weighed about 160lbs. I started working out like crazy, and by september I weighed around 195lbs of pure muscle. After september I stopped working out and stopped eating much protien. Well, by March I was back down to 160lbs. In late January I started to notice my hair loss. So my first question is, do you think that this significant weight loss caused my hair to fall out, or triggered it for that matter?

My second question is do you guys think it would by detrimental to my hair loss regime if I started weight lifting again (with it increasing my testosterone levels by weight lifting)?

I too lost my hair like this, losing "only" 25 lbs in 2 months.

Do a search on my posts of... sh*t, over a year ago. Sept of 2003 roughly.

Either way, I think I was going ot lose my hair anyway, but it was the crash diet that spawned it. I think it just sped up the process.

I'd get on finasteride if you think you are prone to male pattern baldness due to genetics- either on dad's side or mom's side.

You sound like an ectomorph (naturally skinny mofo) . Have you been skinny your whole life? If you are an ecto than what sucks is that like we burn fat like crazy we also burn muscles as well. As an ecto you have to continue to maintain your gains otherwise they dissapear like with you. Im wondering what your workout was and your eating to gain that much. How long did it take to get there? The hairloss could be the weight, more likely a coincidence.

Elguapo,
The start of your story (your threads back in 2003) sound similar to my experience 6 months ago.
Can you tell me was it Telogen Effluvium you suffered and if so did you recover at all.
I lost 16lbs in 2 months. I know that does not sound like much compared to others but I believe it affected my hair.

I'm pretty naturally skinny and have almost no body fat. I believe the hairloss to be more of a coincedence as well, or that it triggered it, not caused it.

I'm just wondering if working out again woud give me these super high testosterone levels again.

Full Head of Hair, you have addressed something that I'm wondering about too. Since I stopped being a veggie (Vegetarian) I'm finding out that my body type is not really skinny but actually more muscular. The Veggie diet really robbed me of some basic building blocks that meat offers. So now I'm weighing in at 206 lbs and headed toward my goal of 195 lbs. I'm thankful that muscle weighs more than fat but as I'm bulking up it sure can get you a bit edgy about your weight:)

I don't think, based on my perusal of the web and other fitness sources, that working out and bulking up will cause or create more hairloss. If anything, it will nutritionally help your scalp and body in the long run. IMO.

Thats right Greg. Many people shold have more muscle than they currently have because the average person doesn't get nearly as much protein as they should. When it comes to wiegh lifting/bulking up its 25% lifting correctly, 25% getting sufficient rest, and 50% eating correctly.

As far as me starting my bulking up again, I was just scared that an increase in testosterone would cause (or may cause) an increase in hair loss.
