My Hairline Destruction... Post dutasteride. w/ pics.

These pics are taken at the same hair length, almost 6 months apart.

Right when I switched back to Propecia, after 14+ successful months on Dutasteride:

Now:
I have severe shedding. Look at my hairline now. It's very narrow and heading towards Norwood 3. The hair is thin, and doesn't cover in the sunlight.

Man your hair looked really good in the first photo. Why didn't you go to one of the generics like dutas instead of moving to Propecia if it was about the money. Change in drugs does bring about a step change in hair cycle. You may yet have just experienced a shed due to that and get it back.

Would still be better I would have thought to move to generic dutasteride from Propecia.

I just moved to Dutas from Propecia. I only went on Propecia as 3 months on finasteride didn't seem to do anything, then neither did Propecia so real or generic seemed to make no difference.

Or how about trying genuine Avodart MWF and quartered Proscar pills on the other days to try and save money. I paid around $300 for 100 pills of genuine Avodart from a US pharmacy and so if you were to take Avodart 3x/week that would be $300 for 33 weeks (or about 8 months) and then however much it costs to get Proscar.

I think pic #4 the left shot is a good example of a shed shot... patchy shedding all over... That's how my sheds looked.

I honestly cant tell much of a difference except for different lighting conditions emphasising more scalp in the photos-- not loss.

maybe its just the lighting, aplunk, but your scalp looks very red and inflamed in pic 2. it is concerning. it looks sunburned almost.

The lightning conditions may be decieving but by the pics dutasteride is far better than finasteride. The price is a rent .

It is-- I was out in the sun all day. I know that it's not that good for it... I'm going to exercise more at night from now on.

Yeah, that's about what I was thinking.

It's a shame because I really wanted to spend my birthday money on other things-- but Avodart is probably what I need the most.

The first pic was when I was on dutasteride. The last few were taken today. Do you really think that I got better?!?! I think I'm losing ground pretty bad!

No it definitely worsened. What is happening is the vertex is diffusing into a greater area, and you are right that the frontal tuft that used to be a solid NW2 is now looking more like a NW2.5 and it looks like it's headed toward 3. That's why it's narrowing and becoming more defined.

It seems that finasteride just is not blocking enough 5ar2 to keep your hair from getting worse.

It's really the only explanation when you think about it. dutasteride held your hair fine for awhile and for this to happen shortly after switching from finasteride to dutasteride...

The lighting does make it difficult to tell, and it would be better if we could see a more closeup version of the first pic, but if you look closely, you can see that you are diffusing all over the scalp. Not to say that the entire top is thinning out, but if you look with your eyes at the top of your head in the second pic, you can see scalp in random spots on it. That's concerning.

The hair also looks a lot less healthy in the second pic than it has in your past pics that you've posted on here before quitting dutasteride. It looks more lifeless.

As for spending your birthday money on it, your call. But I know that this is depressing you and making your hair loss stop would probably help a lot with that, so you probably should do anything you can to get your hands on some dutasteride. You might get lucky and get most of that back, but you should try to make the switch back asap if you are to do so.

it does look like youve lost a few at the front but its not noticeable unless youre looking for it as we are. mines taken a hit recently too actually but at least you can hopefully get back some good results by switching back if thats what you decide.

thanks for taking the time to write a few paragraphs for me. I'm definitely going to switch back to dutasteride. I'll see how the money situation pans out, and hope to have some genuine dutasteride on my hands in early July. I'll probably take it MWF or every other day, although I wish that I could take it everyday.

I also agree about the Norwood 2.5. If I were to show you guys some face shots, you would feel the same. Norwood 2.5 best describes what my current hairline is at now.

thanks brother. You're right that you have to be experts like us to see the loss, but I konw that I've lost lots. This is the worst shedding I've EVER experienced, pre-propecia, pre-dutasteride, anything. I hope that switching back will put me on the right path.

Still the question why not use a generic dutasteride, The real thing is very expensive. Loads of people here on generic and getting success.

Also as alf life is so long why not save money by taking every other day, still a lot more effective than finasteride/Propecia.

I've gone on Dr Reddys dutas following Thin Jim's success and sure that there are many others on Dr Reddys or Cipla.

I think it's a good idea to go back to dutasteride, hopefully it will get back to the good stage it was once at.
