I am 20 years old and i have been losing my hair since i was only 14. I have started taking finasteride just 2 months ago and i know it's too early to judge. Anyway i wanted to ask what norwood that is. I guess norwood 3 vertex or nw4 ?
My male pattern baldness type is an aggressive one i think. Is there any hope that on finasteride i can stop it
and gowing back a little bit on norwood scale ?
Is a hair transplant even an option in my case, at this age?

Sorry for my many questions. I have been struggling with that almost my entire life. It became a crisis for me and i am not being able to accept it. I hope someone can advise me through their experience.
Thanks for you all

Norwood 3V. Yes that is aggressive loss but you made a wise decision starting finasteride. This is my personal opinion but I think you are too far gone to be using simply finasteride. I would recommend using dutasteride and maybe minoxidil too. Never get a hair transplant without stabilising your hair loss first.

Thanks for your reply. You think even in an aggressive case like me , Finasteride can do something? I really do not know what to expect
I am considering adding minoxidil too
and i wanted to ask , in case like mine, is it possibile to go back like to norwood 2 only on medications?

I would actually put you at a Norwood 4, progressing to a 5. Crown is pretty annihilated and you have the island of hair forming.

You won't get back to a Norwood 2 with meds alone unfortunately. You need to add minoxidil and you may see some recovery at the crown and some general thickening. Some people in your situation have seen substantial improvements with big 3. You need give it a go before considering anything else.

So the maximum thing i can expect from medications is to stabilize my hair loss and stop it. Expecting regrowth is not likely in my case . I can conclude that
And in case i am lucky and meds work for me and stabilize my hair loss, a hair transplant would be an option for the near future ?

Just don't get your hopes up about substantial regrowth. For every person like peapoddy or somebody we have 50 that haven't regrown jack.

A good result would be stabilising your hair loss and seeing some cosmetic thickening of the crown and general hair. I think you could potentially cover the baldspot and maybe even get back to a Norwood 3 with meds.

Once you stabilise and see how you respond you could consider a hair transplant to rebuild your frame.

That's why i am asking so i do not raise my expectations too high. Now a realistic target is to stabilise and maintain what i have and doing the hair transplant maybe in the neae future.
My only huge fear,is that i have a really really aggresive hair loss and nothing will work for me. :(

I'm sort of in the same boat, I'm on an aggressive regimen (see my profile) and still losing ground. So far nothing has worked for me. If you do stabilize hair transplant should restore close to full density.

Yeah it seems we have almost the same situation here , unfortunately.
Can you tell me more about your experience with finasteride ? It is written it made you worse. Are you still on it?
I have been on it for 2 months now and i am just experiencing sheddding and more hair loss than before.

Yup I'm still on it, can't say it helped at all. I do think it made things worse so I added in oral minoxidil, which did help and I got some regrowth so I dropped finasteride then I started shedding all my regrowth so I added it back in and my hair has not grown back, Infact the shedding is now worse. Started oral estrogen and Cyproterone acetate about 9 days ago so hoping that will fix my problem..

I am sorry about that. I really know how tough it is to face such aggressive hair loss at 20. Good luck with your meds!
I will give finasteride a try for a year at least and i will evaluate. I think i have nothing to lose trying it since i am not experiencing any side effects. Later on i will add minoxidil too.

If anyone else has got an advice for me , that will be appreciated.

Helo Kiro!
I think its not that bad!.. I would also say NW3.5-4.
I think you have chances to reverse to a norwood 2! Every person is different and has different development of male pattern baldness, and also different response to drugs. I would stay with finasteride minimum 1 or 1.5 years to see any results. Don't overthink it and don't take pics everyday to see improvements, just do it once a week, and also don't pay attention to hairs falling. A person looses about 50-100 hairs per day!

Good luck! and remember, hair is not that important. Its great if you can mantain it, but don't get sad if not.

Since you're starting so young I would guess you could get some amazing results. My hairline stayed where your at for 7 years and i still got significant regrowth, but thats not the norm. With such aggressive hairloss expect to lose gains when your older.

I'd suggest shaving your head because of inital thinning and to watch your hairline regrowth, personally at that phase I think bald looks way better, It might look good on you.

Sound advice but I think regrowth is a hit or miss despite being young. Im same age as OP and started balding at the same time. My hair is a lot better and I'm on a very aggressive regimen with no regrowth, I'm actually still balding :(
