Need regrowth. minoxidil or Proxiphen?

Gentlemen,

I've been on finasteride for merely a week, but I'm planning to add something for regrowth at around the 30 day mark. I have read just about every thread on this forum about Proxiphen and know all about minoxidil, etc.

So, I'm on the fence about which one I should get. On one hand, the majority of people on this forum are using minoxidil, not Proxiphen. For the sake of familiarity it's comforting to be on the same regimen as others if you have questions/problems. On the other hand, I've read mostly great things about Proxiphen, and the idea of applying it once is very appealing.

I'm not worried about the cost so that's a non-issue. Any advice?

my vote is for proxiphen if you can afford it.
It contains minoxidil also in addition to various sods, nano, spironolactone and phenytoin.

If money is an issue, generic minoxidil is extremely cheap and works.

If money isn't an issue, you can't go past proxiphen in my opinion.

However, I use about half the recommended amount and cover my areas easily.

One fellow who has now left these forums due to his success (he replied to my pm after a few months ) used a mere one third of the recommended amount on his hairline, with excellent results. Though everyone is different.

..oh, and after 1 year, Dr Proctor says it can be applied every second day instead of every day.

So i'd be paying $25 a month in a year's time...

Nothing compared to minoxidil's cheapness, sure, but still makes a big difference when you think of it...

you said you are not worried about the cost, so get the proxen. i would if i had the money. i actually do have the money but i'm saving it for grafts for my low hairline, which was 2 inches bald for over five years, which i know proxen won't regrow. it definitely is better because it has minoxidil in it.

I personally just got the proxen-n becasue it has most of what is in proxen except minoxidil and spironolactone, but I'm using generic minoxidil and bought fluridil and will get nizoral soon, so i should be fine for now.

Goingat20 - Yeah, it's sorta too early to say. Nothing has happened yet really. I only recently took detailed pictures anyway. I might post them soon actually.

Collegechemstudent - I am actually inclined to agree with the prox-n (i have some as well as proxiphen, though don't really use it) I like it better as it's a liquid, so it spreads and reaches a greater area. It also lasts way longer than advertised, if you use the recommended 8-10 drops.

I'll go with the Proxiphen. I'll give it a shot for about 6 months to see if I respond at all. I'll update progress in my journal.

I'm guessing I won't need additional CP since Proxiphen already contains it, yes? If so, this helps reduce the cost a little, imo. I'll see if it irritates my scalp, and if so I'll consider some CP to help with the irritation, if any.

Looking forward to only having to apply once a day. I'm also going to just buzz my head before I start working with it so that it's easier to apply. I'm not worried about regrowing my hairline as I'm guessing it's long gone, but if I get some thickness/regrowth on top I'll be a happy man!

Is Proxiphen quick drying and not stinky like Dr. Lees' #500 minoxidil ? Can I apply it and goto work witout getting noticed or stinking ?

It's a cream, and since you use so little (the vial is tiny) its usually not an issue, the drying. It doesn't stink.

You can get it in a liquid apparently, which ive been tempted to try as it'd spread more, but its not as strong and therefore you have to apply it twice a day, and even then its not quite as strong as the cream.

Still... i like liquids a lot more... so i dunno...

How can we apply cream in thinning areas. They all stick to the hair. I have tried it with Dr. Lee's 5% spironolactone and the cream just does not touches the scalp..all on hair

You can get either version of Proxiphen in a liquid form. It's much easier to apply to thinning areas than the cream.

So you use liquid proxiphen then? YOu apply it twice a day then?

Its weaker than the cream, even when applied twice a day.

Anyway, i hope the minoxidil content is weaker, otherwise your results could just be down to two applications of minoxidil a day...

I might check it out anyway though, because it would be so much easier...

I haven't ordered my Proxiphen yet, but the cream now concerns me as I'm guessing it won't even come close to covering my thinning areas. I know that others have said, Dr. Proctor included, that you don't need to cover all thinning areas, but I would certainly feel better knowing I had a direct application.

I guess I'll just have to try it and see how it works.
