The first part of the study is with two other drugs - nothing to do with finasteride.

The only thing with finasteride is that it doubles the chance of getting cancer. While this may sound alarming, it isn't. I may have a 0.2% of getting cancer and now it's 0.4% on finasteride.

That percentage may be misleading. Most people who have been prescribed finistride over the years was for prostate enlargement, which in some cases is a precursor or an elevated risk indicator to prostate cancer. So the fact that more of these men came down with cancer should not be a huge suprise.

Wrong. The placebo group of the trials also had prostate enlargement and their risk for maligne cancer was significantly lower.

Lets see the study writeup then because I dont want to take your word. The study I read about 6 months ago on CNN that said finistride had an increased risk of the deadly form of prostate cancer was in correspondance with the general population, not a controlled placebo study.

These men were also taking a whole Proscar tablet, 5mgs, as opposed to the male pattern baldness dosage, 1mg, correct?

So that should mean we don't have as much to worry about. Hopefully.

maybe i'm wrong, but didn't all these men have benign prostatic hypertrophy to begin with, which made them much more likely to get the more rare aggressive cancer. people like us, with normal prostates should be fine, if not, better off since our prostates won't even have a chance to hypertrophy.

It might increase your risk, but pretty much anything you do these days does, eat, breath etc.

You have no reason to worry about getting prostate cancer from propecia. Unless, your over the age of say 45 there is no fear of getting this cancer. Most of us on this board are between the ages of 19-30. No worries about getting prostate cancer.
