Hey Bash,
4 months. It took 4 months for me to acheive the desired results from Rogaine-- and yes, they are desireable. There was a little shed at first, and a lot of irritation, but those all subsided (Thx to the Nizoral).
You'll notice some results after 2-3 months, but month 4 really shows. Regrowth for the entire first year of use (for some people), then maintenance of that hair.
-- the entire top closed up, and the front has become much more dense (even than the crown-- frontal thining was mostly my problem)

Any growth on the hairline?
Yes, tons. It's really come down a lot. I apply a thin layer of 5% all over the scalp, then the hairline and temples. It works.

Jeffsss,
you're probably having a shed right now. I don't see why you're dropping 30 hairs a day in the shower. It get's better, give it a lot of time, man.
As for dropping the topicals-- why??? You need to be consistent with your treatment. Rogaine's irritation goes away, a lot faster with the Tricomin.
Should you stick with Nizoral? YES! Don't drop that, no matter what, Jeffsss.

should i stick with nizoral / t-gel or should i just go back to my pantene pro-v thickening shampoo and conditioner.

Yes, I'd definitely stick with the Nizoral.

I know people have some success with topicals, but when you're mixing everything up at the same time, it's really hard to know what's working for you. I used minoxidil for over a year on its own and it bummed me out big-time. finasteride kicked mucho *** for me for many years. I wish it was still kicking ***, though... :(

Jeff, I totally can see your pattern now and understand your concern, but realize that it still looks great!

Because jeffsss has JUST started losing his hair. It's still very early in the game for him. He doesn't need minoxidil to grow a bunch of new "fake hair" that requires so much attention and is vellus or only slightly thicker than vellus. I understand if you've got huge gaps and minoxidil grows a bit of fuzz to patch things up, it's worth it, but Jeffsss is nowhere near that point. He can make a full recovery from finasteride alone. No one has regrown a full, thick head of hair like they had before male pattern baldness from minoxidil. finasteride, on the other hand can do that for someone like Jeffsss. It did for me.

He's worried about his receeding hairline, and Propecia hardly does much of anything for that. He wasn't apply Rogaine all over his head, just to the hairline.

Although minoxidil may not grow that much hair, is has the sustained benefit of helping one to keep what he/she has. It's benefits are in the revitalization of follicles.

If not Rogaine, why should Jeffsss be dropping Tricomin? It's an excellent product, with little irritation, regrowth benefits, and overall scalp/hair care.

That's just my opinion-- I'm just saying that Jeffsss shouldn't be starting and stopping treatments so soon. Staying on finasteride is definitely a good route, however.

Just a note.

If you put gel and take outside pics with sun light and so close, every man in this world, even those with the best hairline will look like this picture.

Even women... Even King Kong...

I don't know what to say, it looks like you are trying to be a BALD MAN, it looks like you want to be a bald man.

If you want that then go into anabolics and you will lose a lot of hair.

If you really think you are losing your hair and you are going to be bald soon, then go into proven treatments.

Good luck.

k, that's not gel, it's molding putty. gel REALLY causes hair to stick together, and please just take my word for it instead of making me prove it.

I don't want to be bald at all. I know my hair is thinned out a lot. it's really hard to manage, you can see scalp at almost every angle.

i am on proven treatments. believe me. I'm losing my hair. no ifs ands or buts about it. poeple are noticing. especially people who know me well.
my hair was thick as hell, now it's struggeling for coverage..

I simply cannot believe that you people cannot see that i'm losing my hair.. LOL seriously!
my hair strands are thinning so badly that sometimes i look at my hand.. looks like nothing is there.. then take a closer look.. and there is a thin hair there!!
I lose 30 hairs in the shower everyday.. and i should be put to sleep for doing this, but i actually count them, every day.
i dont know.. if you guys think i'm pulling your chain for whatever reason.. that's fine.. to me this is no joke.

Man Jeff, enjoy what you have right now, you have a great head full of hair, and dont worry about your scalp under the sun, you will see the scalp on every human being in this world under the sun with gel or wet hair.

Your current mental state about your hair is the real problem because maybe you will loose more of your hair because stress, or in the worst case scenario you will accelerate your male pattern baldness condition, stress is one of the worst enemy of the hair, even women loose hair because of that.

Have you visited a doctor or something? I do, and he tell me that my problem was stress, also I give him a lot of my dad/uncle/mother/grandpa, etc pictures and as soon he saw that nobody suffer male pattern baldness he told me "dont worry mate, you dont have male pattern baldness, just a big forehead and thin hair"... since my childhood.

Take care, and dont worry enjoy the life man, your hair is fine!!

Well, you should be happy you did this because now you can rest assured that you are not losing more hair than normal. You can lose up to 100 hairs per shower and it's still "normal". 30 hairs is nothing. Seriously. Don't sweat it.

In Conclusion - Don't Count Hairs

In terms of understanding hair loss, the nature of shed hair and the rate of shedding is not very important, although it may be disturbing to see. Shedding is natural, everyone sheds hair daily whether affected by hair loss or not. You can shed up to 100 scalp hairs a day without having any scalp hair loss. A few people may shed more than this but still not develop baldness. To understand the development of hair loss the main factor to consider is the rate of hair growth and replacement, not so much the rate of shedding. Some people have a high rate of shedding but also a high rate of hair growth. The result is no net loss of hair on the scalp. Some people have a low rate of hair shedding and a low hair regrowth rate. The result is similarly no alopecia development. The problem comes when someone sheds hair at a faster rate than it is replaced. This is the scenario where baldness develops. You can have a normal or even a low shed rate and still develop baldness. If the hair is being shed faster than it regrows then alopecia will develop. So the amount hair shed each day/week/month is a poor diagnostic indicator of hair loss. To define alopecia you must look at what is left on the scalp. That is where it counts.

First, I am confused, since I thought losing hair due of stress was a myth, I was almost 100% sure it was a myth, I have read it in a lot of serious sites (including this forum)

Second, having no family history of male pattern baldness, doesn't has anything to do with it. You can have no family history of male pattern baldness, and you can go bald anyways.

I talk by experience, my family doesn't have any history of male pattern baldness, but I have high levels of DHT and my pattern is exactly the same as someone with male pattern baldness, so in conclusion I have male pattern baldness. Plus the dermatologist said the same.

When I first started to lose my hair, I thought the same as you, that it was due of stress. So, I left university that year, worked less, went to gym, 4-5 days a week, trained VERY HARRRRDDD, like arnold, to kill my stress. Took vitamins, had a better diet. And none of this even slowed down my hairloss. It even look like it accelerated it.

And im not saying I did this for one month, I did that for one complete year, and had no results!!!

So, in conclusion, I can say that if you have no male pattern baldness hisotry in your family, it doesn't mean you can't have male pattern baldness...

you can still have male pattern baldness.

Now that i'm writing this I also remember my doctor said that I was losing it due of stress 5-6 years ago, when i started losing it.

But that's what my medical doctor said. After that I went to the dermatologist and he said that i had male pattern baldness.

I second GoodGuy

I highly doubt that your pre-male pattern baldness hair showed NO SCALP AT ALL in these worst-case conditions (direct sunlight, hair sticking up [the more an individual hair sticks up, the less scalp it covers] and to top it all, your sticky molding putty.) Trust me , all the guys I know in their teens with very thick dark hair show almost as much scalp as you under the sun when their hair is wet and sticking up in all directions like yours. There is no-one in the world with hair SOOOOO THICK that not a millimeter of scalp shows through in these conditions.
This said, you could be thinning (if you think you are thinning, then you likely are) but you still have a good deal of hair. IMO, anyone who can cover their scalp completely under direct sunlight with wet hair combed nicely to the side (NOT STICKING ALL AROUND like your photo, like I said before, that is impossible) has a full head of hair. Non-thinning women don't show much scalp even with wet hair for one simple reason: their hair is MUCH longer than that of men, and long hair does'nt stick up and around like short hair.
Cheers,
Arjun

Listen..

first and foremost. i realize that I still have hair.

however... my hair has thinned out a LOT!! in person looking at a mirror you can litterally see that the hairline has went to shyt..
I can feel that there is much less hair when i shower and feel my scalp.

I got on propecia in august when i started losing a lot of hair in the shower, comb, pillow etc...

you guys would have thought i was nuts!!!!!!! but i have male pattern baldness on both sides of my family.. and i know for a fact it's coming.

i hope that propecia hasnt negativly affected my hair.. i dont see how it could?

The worst it could do is not work, which, luckily for all of us, is statistically unlikely. It'll never make you go bald. Especially for someone in your very early stage of hairloss, finasteride is the VERY BEST possible defence. It works.

Keep the faith!

And once again, the most important thing is to give the drug TIME. This is SO important. You've been on for five months. That's not enough time to see real results. Give it at least a year. At least!
