Hi guys,

Is my left side "balding"? (Not sure if that's the word)... it's not "deeper than the right side, but hairline on left side of my head has a stronger "angle" than my right side.

Left side:

Right side:
RightTemple.jpg

I only began to notice it this year, so I dunno if it's real or if I just "noticed" something that's always been there.

About Me:
1) East Asian, 42
2) Mom's brothers *did* have receding hairline/balding, but my full-blood brother does not.
3) I also took a genetic test which seems to indicate that "probably" I do *not* have the balding gene ("typical odds of MPD")
4) I *did* go on a "crash diet" restricting calories to around 1,900/day (from average around 3,500/day... I'm a champion eater and can eat 6,000 calories in 1 meal on some days; never been fat but was slightly overweight) and had *lost 22 pounds in around 6 months* when I started to notice my hair.
5) I've seesawed on the same diet for another 6 months; so in other words I've been on the diet for around 1 year.

I do *not* cut meats (I love meat!) while dieting, but tend to cut overall, and go on a high-meat binge day maybe 2x a week now. But still, average less than 1,900 calories per day (from previous 3,500 or more)

Any advice appreciated...

I have the exact same thing going on though I'm going on 31. I have the left side losing hair with the right side perfectly intact. It's actually very common for one side to go before the other from Male Pattern Baldness. Considering that you have decent genetics, it may only recede slightly but there is no way to tell. Here is a link to my first post.

I would like to think that it's some other issue: diet, stress, ect. but that doesn't seem to be the case for me.

Thanks for your input, CharlieJay... read your thread too and I'm truly sorry to hear about your depression. Been there too early in life but nowadays my life has been nothing less than *perfect* (except for my hair! which is why I'm concerned). Almost no stress, no depression, happy, great sex life, good sleep, exercise everyday (don't need to work much) but still... left side (possible) bald spot or balding or receding... No problem as it is but I dunno if it will continue, and/or if I should do anything to prevent it from receding.

Btw I look like a 32 year old *Asian* (so white people mistake me for 25); so this "balding" (if real) would definitely be BAD for my current way of life :'(

Since as I stated I have a great sex life, I'm concerned about using finasteride..

Cheers guys

Well, if everything is going that well for you, losing a little bit of hair isn't too bad! Getting to 42 with that much hair is probably unusual. In fact, getting to 31 with as much hair as I have is probably usual too.

I'm very hesitant to use Finasteride as well. I think I could go without the hair to save my sex life.

LOL thanks for the "envy" guys but the bigger issues are:

1) Is it hairloss or not?
2) If yes, will this hairloss continue or not?
3) If yes, how to prevent further loss?

Normally it's around the distance between your chin/nostrils is ~ the same distance
to your forehead, from top of nose.

Hair is usually thinner around the temple area (for non balding people), relatively speaking.

That in itself is not baldness.(Lot's of women have hair that way as well, young women (in twenties).

If top of nose -> hairline <= nostrils -> chin, then you're OK.

I'm 19 and you have more hair than me. This is so f*****g unfair. Your hair seems fine, don't worry about it
