Are there any studies which compare the efficacy of .25mg Daily vs .5mg every other day? Any thoughts on which one is a better option?

I remember Bryan was recommending .25mg daily is better.
Better in what way? More efficient at stopping hair loss, or less risk of sides? I really want my libido back but I'm desperate not to lose any more hair either! I started on 1mg daily 17 days ago. Have since lowered it to .5mg a day. I'll keep going with this for a few weeks but if my libido doesn't come back I might lower it again.

As you can see here .2mg finasteride inhibits serum DHT only 7% less than 1mg finasteride.

However the change in scalp DHT between doses may be of far greater variation than serum DHT. It would be nice if someone could dig up some info on this

Just to let you know, there will be no difference in sides whether you are taking .2mg or 5mg of finasteride. If there is a difference it is the placebo effect. However taking the lower dose may make your hair worse because of effects which I do not know on the levels of scalp DHT.

I know for dutasteride at least, dosage variation does have a significant effect on the levels of scalp DHT.

Really you are risking your hair for no additional benefits by not taking 1mg of finasteride, most likely.

Hmm. I've read in loads of other places that lowering the dose has gotten rid of people's side effects. So, I lowered mine to .5mg a day from 1mg a few days ago. I was starting to feel my libido come back. Now you tell me it's all placebo? Damn you!

Is there no way for scientists to measure a person's libido, so they can determine if the person is experiencing a placebo effect or not?

Yes it is placebo effect. The difference in serum DHT (which is the cause of sides) is so miniscule its similar to the likelihood of an extra straw breaking the camel's back. There is no logical argument that can be made for sides being worse with 1mg then .2mg
