I agree with MrT. Propecia only lowers DHT levels allowing more Testosterone to be around.

Sorry to post a naive question, but I have been taking Propecia for 4 months now, and I would like to know what effects it should be having, or when I should expect effects.

I am not taking Minoxidil yet, but I am thinking about including it later. Should I wait for a certain stage in taking Propecia to start using
Minoxidil ?

I didn't start with Minoxidil because of finances and also the bother of applying it all the time. I thought I would be happy just keeing the hairline I began with, but with no progress and more hairloss, my hairline is still deteriorating, so that's where Minoxidil comes in.

Cheers

It's impossible to say with any certainty whether it will work for you or not. Different people are affected by medication in different ways. There are many different forms of hairloss...any number of them may work in unision to end up to the same effect. You need to treat the whole problem or none of it. If I were you, I'd scrape up some cash and go invest in some minoxidil. Try it for 4 months...if you don't get any results, then botch it and try something else. Propecia + Minoxidil + Nizoral = best chance of at least stopping hairloss. Also, eat right...exercise...and keep your mind off the problem. The mind has a funny way of making things so much worse than it should be heh. Good luck cousin. I cry inside just reading bout another guy losing his mop. Shouldn't hafta happen to anyone. And those bastards in the medical field should work a little harder trying to fix this problem. It's so counter-intuitive it makes my head spin. They think that since male pattern baldness isn't a life threatening or dibilitating disease, that it's not worth the money to invest in it. But, the first company that makes a product that can tackle the problem will INSTANTLY make billions. Personally, I'd pay any sum of money to keep my hair.

Those basards! I say we go to their houses at night, and shave their heads...then they'll see how "benign"...or "non-threatining" baldness can be ..WHO'S WITH ME?!?

i'm with you stingray. male pattern baldness might not be a life-threatening illness, but the psychological impact of it is just horrible for most guys. especially when it happens at an early age. i was thinking recently that health insurance should cover hair loss treatments like propecia and rogaine, at least for guys who are young like us. male pattern baldness is a real problem and doctors need to start taking it seriously. we young guys with male pattern baldness get totally shafted. not only are we loosing our hair, but we're made to think that's it's not a serious problem. that's bullsh#t. bald guys are scorned and ridiculed for being bald. people with cancer aren't treated this way. plenty of guys with male pattern baldness are often approached by friends and co-workers with remarks such as, "wow, looks like you've lost a lot of hair." no one goes up to a cancer patient and says, "wow, looks like you've really wasted away." of course, i'm not saying we have it as bad as people with cancer. i'm just trying to make an analogy here. i just think male pattern baldness deserves to be recognized as a serious problem, instead of getting blown off as "benign" and "non-life-threatening," as stingray said.

Some cancers can be cured(hairloss cannot), and the most upsetting thing for many cancer patients is losing thier hair from chemo.
and "non-life-threatening
Well depression is life threatening and life stealing and losing one's hair causes depression for more people than anyone would like to admit.

Question about proscar/minoxidil.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:?: I am going on my 4th month of using minoxidil. The first month or so I experience shedding as expected. Now the shedding has resumed, and I can only see increased hairloss in the areas that I was appling minoxidil. I have a horseshoe shaped hairloss on top of my head. What should I do? Stop treatment with minoxidil or continue.

P.s. I stopped taking proscar for approx. 3 weeks, thats when I began to notice an increase in hair loss. Could this be a factor?

Thanks,
Please reply if you have comments.

Eating and taking the pill

Does anybody know if it's better to eat when you're taking Propecia... I take it a lot in the morning when I don't have breakfast... I wonder if the medicine is just blowing through my system without doing anything for me.

I've be on it for about 2 months... shedding seems to continue as same as it ever was. Physically I feel about the same as always. Just wondering if I'm doing something wrong or if i need to just keep going for a while.

Thanks.

Officially, it does not matter how or when you take it,however some guys take in at night because test levels supposedly rise at night.I take mine at 9:30am every day.I do not know what differences if any it makes.Food, no food, still is absorbed.

I take mine with a morning snack after breakfast in order to help the absorption time last longer. That's only me though...

Hi,

Im new 2 this site, and i have a couple of questions which it hasnt answered... Im 24, and am begining to notice signs on my hair thinning and receeding very slighty at the front. From this sites information i have noticed that Propecia
is the best treatment, for me to take to maintain and keep the pretty much current full head of hair. my questions regarding this product are:

1. Shedding - is it considerable ?
2. if i start taking Propecia will i have to continue taking it for the rest of my life ?

thanks, appreciate any help and advice anyone can offer.
