Side Effects Unknown

There are reasons not to take the drugs, unless you are absolutely desperate.

1) After taking the drugs, you will initially lose some hair and may not grown back.
2) side effects, fewer sex drive, libido, softer erection etc.
3) stress, emotions.

but these are just what you can see... the more scary part is what you cannot see:

1) Since the side effect reacts differ among ppl, and is really unknown. Are there a possbility of developing testicle canxer after taking the drugs for an extended period of time? This is no joke, what about the damage that is going to make to your kidney ?

2) Losing libido/sex drive permantely, this seems to be overrated, but you need to understand this does not only hurt your stick and ball, but it also hurt your sperm quality. (you know what i mean). Even you dont feel pain, that doesnt mean you are damage-free.

I am not trying to convince you not to use the drug, but pls convince me this drug is not going to do more harm than good to anyone.

Very little science in your reply, mostly conjecture and fear mongering. Do you have data on the rate of permanent impotence from the use of finasteride? NO, you don't . Since the OVERALL side effect rate of all types is about 2%., I guess I am wondering how you came up with side effect and presented it as a real possibility?

Moreover, there is no evidence whatsoever that finasteride or minoxidil can cause cancer of any type. Where did you find that one?

Kidney damage? Reports, research?

Before you make these assertions, it would be good to back them up with some science. And yes, you are trying to discourage the use of these drugs, so you should at least admit your agenda up front.

I am not sayin it will cause blah blah blah, but it may. Instead of proving it will cause all these unseen side effect with research and data, I am asking you, or anyone - since the side effect is differ from person to person and the company who market it is covering the real side effect, can you prove to me that the 'scary unseen' side effect cannot happen?

Lest see, prove to me that:

Airplane travel doesn't CAUSE cancer. It may! Think of all those things in the air.

Computer and TV screens don't CAUSE cancer. They may!

That purified air isn't harmful. It MAY BE!

That protein in the diet is the cause of heart disease. It may be.

I could go on and on.

Clearly it is not possible to prove these issues and the burden of proof is always on the accuser. So, as with the typical tactic of those who want to scare people off, you raise these issues as if there were data to support them. Fact is that there is no data that I am aware of citing the incidence of the ailments you describe (permanent impotence, liver damage, or cancer) in any way correlated to propecia or minoxidil usage.

If there is, then as the naysayer. produce the goods or put a stopper in it.

Or, is the sky really falling out there today? It POSSIBLE. I think I will stay in.

Correlation does not equal causality

Science cannot "prove" anything. It will just give you a range of statistical probability; a degree of likelihood.

Unfortuately, I don't know the answer to your question, which I assume is how likely one would be to finasteride's "scary unseens" (which is a good phrase, by the way). But I think if there was a definite correlation, that we would have seen a post concerning it on here by now. Also, it seems to be the case that when it works for people, those same people never come online to talk about it. You only hear from the people who had adverse side-effects.

O.

Actually the only reliable data on side effects is gleaned by the manufacturer. They did that in the clincial studies and they are required by law to log all side effect complaints and report them to the FDA on an ongoing basis.

So, if anyone even remotely thought that there scary side effects were related to propecia use, they would be on Merck's *** very very quickly. So would the personal injury attorneys. Merck would be forced to report to FDA and so forth.

To my knowledge, this has not happened.

Proof of burden is on the accuser here.

18 months on current routine. Very nice regrowth on the crown, which is now completely filled in. hair transplant in the front, as that area went south years ago before there was propecia.

Actually, I'm thinking of looking into sueing Merck a few months down the road from now. I've been off of Propecia about 7 months now. My sex drive is hovering just a tad above zero and my erections suck. I think I might wait to the one year mark and then contact some lawyers. I imagine I don't have a very good case, unless I can convince some other people who are in the same boat as me to join in a class-action suit. Even then, I imagine it's hard to establish in a court of law that my sexual problems are the result of having taken finasteride. I don't really blame others for being skeptical, because I likely would be too if I weren't going through this myself. But I feel like I should be doing something. If I really do have long-term side effects from this drug, I feel as though I am entitled to some sort of financial restitution. It's not as though I was warned this would happen. And I feel that if people really are experiencing long-term effects from Propecia use, as I believe there are, then Merck should include this as a warning so people know what they might possibly be getting into.

I am new to the discussion and just had a question. I am currently taking propecia and use Nizoral (not as often as every 3 days) and was wondering if there are any herbal or vitamins that could be taken along with propecia. I have fine hair to begin with but only really have the beginnings of a receding hairline and thinning in the front.

Also, alot of people have said my hair is getting much darker and even though I dont notice my hair thickening around the hairline people have commented on how my hair has thickened over all.

Thanks for your help.

Hey, welcome to the crew. Vitamins won't do you really any good in the fight... just stick with what you are doing right now. If you are a real trooper and stuff, get on minoxidil, but only if you need to regrow hair. Just keep poppin' the pills and you should be muy bien in no time :)

Thanks Stingray, I have heard though that propecia does not work or maybe hasnt been proven to help with a receding, thin hairline.

Do you know if this is correct?

Also, there seems to be alot of conflicting reports out there. Propecia seems great but does it only stop hair loss or can there be some regrowth, especially in the receding areas?

Thanks again

Propecia and Minoxidil both work on the hairline. Both work better than eithe one by itself and Nizoral adds to the combo (use every three days).

Do yourself a favor and get on these three and stay on them.

Works great in the front for me =)

Pill cutter, razor blade, x-acto knife. Your choice, I prefer the last.

If you cut 5MG into sixths, you get about .85 MG. However, you will see that in the process, some loss of the original tab occurs. So, I ESTIMATE that I am left with about .7 but it could be higher or lower.

Based on the data on dosage, it matters not!
