That's your opinion. Every presentation, interview, press release, web page, etc. talks about regrowth... their focus is on, and in their exact words a 'functional cure'.

Hellouser I have a lot of respect for you because you went to a lot of trouble to help all of us. You're the last guy here I would give a hard time to but we should face the reality that Replicel already publicized data from a previous study and that data was sad. Maybe they tweaked the treatment but it would take a major tweak to fix that treatment because they injecting a lot of those cells into the scalp and the results were poor so they need to completely rework that treatment if they are going to have success. They need to alter the technology they're using not just the dosing or frequency of injections.

And I've agreed with everyone that the Phase 1 results WERE lackluster.. hell, I'm sure even Replicel themselves acknowledge it. But those results are after only 6 months. Not even hair transplants work that fast, so why are we so set that the follicle's number of DP cells is going to increase into the 1,000 - 3,000 range and the start growing hair within 6 months all over the scalp? I asked them about data beyond the 6 month mark and they dont have it.

Having said that, I am *not* writing off Replicel. That's way too early.

Patently false.

Focusing may have been the wrong word for him to use. Emphasizing would have been more accurate. They are hoping for much more, but they're trying not to overpromise. At least that's my read on it.

Phase 1 was for safety therefore the injections were at lower dosages.

They're injecting DP cells back into the scale which we know the more DP cells you have the better quality hair you have.

Keeping that in mind, why would you expect the Phase 1 results to be earth shattering when they're purposefully not injecting that many DP cells?

Anyone that's assuming this treatment will fail or succeed is wrong to do so. Wait until Phase 2 is done at the very least. If it's really successful you'll hear about it before Phase 2 is even done because they'll want to bring it to market in Japan ASAP.

Ok I agree that it's too early to write them off but I'm not getting my hopes up yet either.

Forward progress is always exciting news.

I find it interesting that Shiseido/Replicel have stated it will take 5-8 months to culture the cells for their treatment and RIKEN is aiming for 2-3 weeks to culture cells.

5-8 months would require making two trips to Japan where 2-3 weeks you could just stay there and wait it out. Either way I don't care as long as this gives me back my hair. Fingers crossed.

Edit: @Torin It may be 5-8 weeks, I'll research, come back and confirm. But it's definitely longer than the 2-3 weeks RIKEN is quoting.

If you wait it out for 2 - 3 weeks in a hotel in Japan that will be expensive because a hotel will cost you about $100 per day and then there's eating out at restaurants, transportation, etc. It may be cheaper and more convenient to just fly there twice.

I read in good sources that they injected a lot of the cells into the scalp. Maybe they can increase the dose. I don't know.

So why can't they do a punch in your home area, ship it, then fly out when it's all cultured?

I guess they could.

In my view, the bigger issue is whether or not the treatment will even work. I do feel certain that Dr. Tsujis technology will work but that's 5 - 10 years away.

What a world it will be when Dr. Tsuji's treatment comes to market. By that time they will likely have also cured the entire aging process anyway.

DHT-blocking drugs might be described as immunizing againt hairloss, but I don't think it's accurate because Androgenetic Alopecia is not caused by immune disorder. On the other hand, alopecia areata is definitely caused by immune dysfunction.

I think rch-01 falls under the category of regenerative medicine or cell-based therapeutics. Big pharma has no white powder pills or potions in this newer category of treatments.

Big pharma is going to quickly fold once stem cell treatments pick up the pace.. and thank GOD.

If only we could do about legalized scams like insurance...

I know their trials will be ~ 2 years, but any details on how long they're tracking each patient? Their trial may be 2 years but that doesn't mean everyone's getting the treatment around the same time.
Not sure but Replicel has stated several times they have almost 5 years of safety data for their Phase 1 patients.

I don't know why so many people doubt replicel so much, I'm personally excited for it. They have almost 5 years of safety data and if they've been following the patients from their 1st trial for 5 years and are in phase II then the results they got must have been maintained and really could be permanent.

They also claim they don't have efficacy data over 6 months post treatment, so either they legitimately don't have it (whether by choice or as a limitation of phase I trial), or it's just as underwhelming as their initial phase I reports. How have they tracked safety for 5 years - is it just self-report?
Now that you put it that way it doesn't really make sense that they have safety data for 5 years but no efficacy data past 6 months unless patients are just phoning in like you suggest.

Then again as I mentioned before efficacy data wouldn't really matter if they injecting smaller dosing for safety testing versus whatever they've hypothesized is the optimal dose for efficacy.

People doubt RepliCel because the results of their phase I trial were underwhelming, to put it lightly, and they only followed progress for six months. I can't find anything about 5 years anywhere.

It's going to take some damn impressive results, with plenty of follow up, from phase II for me to regain confidence in RepliCel.

The smart money's on Tsuji and the funky bunch at this point.

Agreed, the likelihood of Tsuji succeeding is higher IMO.

Replicel could potentially come to market first though.

The 5 years was just safety data and you can't really judge efficacy off of the first trial IMO. Phase I is mostly to determine safety and toleratability, I'm sure results will be better in phase II. They must also believe they can improve on results other wise I think they would have went back to the drawing board before continuing. I do agree Tsuji will be more likely to succeed tho

I'm mostly excited for replicel because I have no recession of my hair line and no bald spots so if this can immunize hairs and reverse miniaturization it could be a cure for me

I'm also thankfully not at the point where RepliCel would be of no benefit to me. I've got recession and thinning, but no atrocious "bald spot" yet. So hopefully, with meds and stuff, I'll be able to stave it off just long enough that I could maybe get RepliCel to keep what I've got and then Tsuji to restore what I've lost.

Either way, I have full faith that Riken/Kyocera/Organ Tech are the heroes we need and deserve.

Tsuji, Follica etc. will work to grow new hairs. They won't immunize or thicken our current hairs.

If Shiseido/Replicel's were unsuccessful at immunizing hairs, would it basically mean we will need finasteride for the foreseeable future (maybe forever)?

Besides Shiseido/Replicel, there is no other big player trying to permanently immunize follicles.
