Will Tea Tree Oil or Balm Shampoo Help to Treat Seborrheic Dermatitis? - Thursday, April 10, 2008

Question

What is Seborrheic Dermatitis and Telogen Effluvium? Will tea tree oil or Balm shampoo help to treat it?

Answer:

Seborrheic dermatitus is a scalp condition that can be the cause of telogen effluvium baldness which is the most common type of diffuse alopecia hair loss. Telogen effluvium is characterized by diffuse thinning hair all over the scalp or affected area. A number of treatments are available however, consulting with a dermatologist or a hair loss doctor would be best so he/she can recommend a treatment based upon the severity. I'm not so sure about Tea Tree Oil or Balm, but I know shampoos that contain ketoconazole such as Nizoral and Revita have been said to help with this condition. Extina, a topical ketoconazole foam may also be helpful. Be sure however, to discuss these treatments and others with your physician.

do not use nizoral, makes it worse.

apply honey and cinnamon everyday, this worked for me.

make sure you are sleeping well and avoid stress, during sleep your immune system rebuilds itself, perhaps this will help you, also sleep affects all hormone levels.

die hard.....right now I'm not on any of the big 3 (not on anything actually). As a starter, would u recommend nizoral by itself. Does nizoral cause any sheds? And what do you mean by fried....u mean it dries out ur hair?

Prior to using Nizoral I had extremely fucken oily hair it was rank and the sad thing I wasn't aware of it until I paid attention, the dandruff was out of control I would always come home after school with flakes on my shoulders.

Fastword to about 8 weeks ago when I started using Nizoral about 6x a week.

Today I have absolutely no trace of Dandruff on my scalp anywhere - my hair is NEVER oily and Nizoral has completely gotten rid of dermatitus on my scalp and excess oil.

Hair is healthy then ever, I have used it pretty much everyday for 8 weeks and I don't think I experienced any real shed.

A++ for Nizoral 2%

i suffer from severe SB. Stress definitely triggers it and thin my scalp. When i'm in stress i sleep around ten-twelve hours to get better.

Try fish oils IBM, i heard it helps with depression and other times of mental illness.

Nizoral worked for me, and i believe it does for most people, but it's not going to work for everyone.
