Will Tea Tree Oil or Balm Shampoo Help to Treat Seborrheic Dermatitis? - Thursday, April 10, 2008
Question
What is Seborrheic Dermatitis and Telogen Effluvium? Will tea tree oil or Balm shampoo help to treat it?
Answer:
Seborrheic dermatitus is a scalp condition that can be the cause of telogen effluvium baldness which is the most common type of diffuse alopecia hair loss. Telogen effluvium is characterized by diffuse thinning hair all over the scalp or affected area. A number of treatments are available however, consulting with a dermatologist or a hair loss doctor would be best so he/she can recommend a treatment based upon the severity. I'm not so sure about Tea Tree Oil or Balm, but I know shampoos that contain ketoconazole such as Nizoral and Revita have been said to help with this condition. Extina, a topical ketoconazole foam may also be helpful. Be sure however, to discuss these treatments and others with your physician.
