Someone posted on here earlier bad-mouthing the forum and I defended it... but I've got to admit, I'm having my doubts.
Now this place is still great for learning about the causes and treatment of hair loss. I found it invaluable when I started my 'hair loss journey', and I still hang around because I'm still learning, I enjoy sharing experiences, and I hope that I can pass on what I've learned to newbies who are in the same position that I was in two years ago.
But it's getting less friendly around here. There are just too many folks with an 'agenda'. They aren't interested in sharing knowledge or experience, they're more concerned about points-scoring, self-promotion or generally being impolite egotistical a**holes.
Example one. Why do we have so many trolls? If you don't have hair loss, or you are bald and happy, great. I'm pleased for you. But don't come on here and insult us. You may think that we're losers/freaks/narcissists. Many of us probably are. Perhaps I am too. But most of us are reasonably normal guys making a perfectly legal and legitimate choice to treat our hair loss, and frankly we don't give a sh*t about your opinion of us. Our choice to learn about and use treatments has no practical or moral consequences for you. Butt out.
The hypochondriacs and anti-Propecia crusaders are wearing thin as well. It's almost like some kind of organised campaign is bombarding the forum with pseudoscientific crap. Are side effects a possibility? Yes. Does Propecia cause cancer, heart disease, mental illness and global warming? No. Or at least, there's no evidence for any of this. Some guys accuse me of being a Merck shill because I'm sceptical. Fine. But the onus is on YOU to prove that the trial results were rigged and that Propecia can actually cause the myriad ailments that you claim. Let's have some real statistical evidence, not assertions that some guys once got asthenia/fatigue/depression while taking Proscar, therefore it must have been caused by finasteride. Jay-sus. You call this 'science'???
I'm finding all the Big Pharma critics tiresome. Plenty of people have a "dolphins good, drug companies bad" mentality and that's A-OK with me. Drug companies probably are quite bad sometimes, and no-one likes organisations that make money out of sickness. However, we live in a market economy, and without the profit motive, no one would bother trying to research new drugs. If all drug research was in the hands of state-owned monopolies I doubt we'd have any treatments for hair loss at all. In fact I think we'd have many fewer treatments for most types of conditions...
Anyway, rant over :!:
