Steriods and onset of balding

Since the onset of hair loss is genetically determined and let's say you know it will start for you when you're 40, would taking anabolic steroids at 20 prematurely trigger your hair loss? You hear stories about guys who start on gear suddenly start losing their at an accelerated rate when they had perfect hair before that. If that's true, how can that happen if it was set to happen later in life? Does the huge increase in testosterone and thus DHT switch the balding gene on early?

Or were they already losing their hair, just more slowly and it wasn't detectable yet and the roids sped up the process?

Average male produces about 7-9 mg of testosterone per day. A steroid cycle is like 600 mg a week. That's a ****load of test (or DHT deriative) compared to the baseline

Right but what I'm asking is for guys who experience balding once they start cycling, why is the testosterone triggering the hair loss if those guys would have hypothetically only started balding when they were older. The huge amount of T and DHT is turning on the their balding gene then? Another example, a guys male pattern baldness won't kick in until he's fifty year old (and let's say he's then destined to lose everything on top) BUT at twenty-five he starting using steroids. Will he start losing his hair or will it only start at fifty despite all that T in his system?

Well maybe some people develop an excess of alphareductase enzyme in their 40ies and start to go bald but they have an increased level of androgen receptors at 20. Since many steroids already have androgenic capabilities(without the need to be converted by 5ar2 like deca for example) they can cause premature hairloss

thats a high dose! lol. id say 300-400 is average for a non competing bodybuilder, plus you normally stack it. to truly understand this you need to reasearch all diff types if gear bud.

I would say yes I think nearly all men are sensitive to androgens over time. Even women lose hair if given abnormally high doses of male androgens. Maybe purely observational but most men I see with Norwood 0 at older ages like 40+ have no facial hair. I think androgens cause both hair loss and facial hair/body hair over time and it affects nearly every man to some degree.
So if you abnormally raise your androgen levels I say you start balding early and much faster then you normally would have period.

Thank for the input. I disagree about almost all men being sensitive to it because there are plenty of NW0/1's with facial hair who die with a thick head of hair (albeit probably thinner because of aging). And transgender men, females who transition to male via hormones, many lose their hair as expected but some don't ever. The T has no effect because their not carrying the male pattern baldness gene.

Although I wouldn't suggest anyone to do it for this reason, taking steriods would tell you if you have any degree of male pattern baldness at all. Jay Cutler for example has a perfect head of hair and he's one of the biggest users around.

It really depends on your genetics. I think you will most likely lose your hair in your 20's while using steroids if you have that gene. But look at Jay Cutler. He has been on roids for 15 years but his hairline still looks great. He has strong hair genetics.

Of course its genetics and there are always exceptions because its sensitivity to those androgens that is most important. I think though the majority of men are sensitive to them so a lot of guys at Norwood 0 at older ages happen to have very low androgen levels maybe just low DHT I dont know.

I'm sure a lot of us have seen the steroid guy on youtube hairlossfromsteroids. He has spent countless hours and many years in controlling male pattern baldness from steroid use. If you watch any of the videos, he can give a good input on how steroids effects the hair.
