Switching to Dutasteride to save temples and hairline

My left side hairline is oddly more receded and thinning than my right. I've been on finasteride. 1.25 mg everyday for just about a year now (with some skipping near may because of potential sides) and I don't think it's slowing down the situation fast enough. I am hesitant to continue using finasteride beyond a few more months and considering swapping to dutasteride asap.

But I also read about the sensitivity to scalp testosterone that dutasteride (and even finasteride) can cause. DHT is the main culprit but the rise in T could also be contributing.

How should this be approached? Can you even test if your scalp is particularly sensitive to T? I don't want to hop on Ru because of cost and inconvenience but if needed I will do it.

Eh on RU. People use that because they can't use finasteride, not because it works well at all except maybe some in the crown. It's hard to get and expensive. Have you considered oral min? Dutasteride probably will work slightly better but it's not been tested to my knowledge against finasteride.

I will incorporate Min after I begin my dermarolling with a Dr. pen but i am concerned about that shed that it gives.

I heard RU was good for blocking scalp T.

I have microneedled for two years so thumbs up on doing that. I am not saying RU does nothing but eh, I just don't know that it is worth the trouble. The other thing is that we assume multiple stacks will work better but they might not be synergistic at all or even worse, they might work at cross-purposes. If I were rich and it were not a huge hassle to buy and then apply, I would probably have used it in a male context but it might be that it works a little on its own without making a difference when combined with finasteride/min because they are already maxing out what is possible. I think about baldness in terms of bodily conservation of resources. Like scars, which won't grow hair either, the body shrugs its shoulders and says, "eh, male hair gone, not worth the hassle to fix. So dermarolling essentially tricks the body into expending resources to fix both scars which it does incredibly well from day one of using it and it tricks the scalp into fixing balding areas at least somewhat. It's amazing for faces and also aging hands.

The key is to stay with it as I said and for me, it is two years and it probably works synergistically with other meds.

Thanks for this reply.

Do you use a pen to needle? I'm buying a Dr. Pen A6 from ebay right now and am just looking through the reviews. Not sure if it's worth paying extra for a faster shipping source.

If you used a Dr. Pen, which needle type was it? They have like 10 options it's quite overwhelming.

I haven't and it isn't a question of cost. I would like to but I have so much going on in terms of hair treatments and I know that derma-rolling is healing all of the scar tissue on my scalp. I had a transplant that only partially took, with huge scarring and cobblestone effects, baby doll appearance in places and some grafts with only two hairs growing and not micro-grafts, regular ones.

Now I can barely find any cobblestoning or scar tissue and it seems to have taken grafts that never grew and turned them into productive new follicles. I can't tout microneedling enough and for many guys, it might be that even light rolling everyday can give fantastic results.

Here are two excellent pretty much up to date key articles:

Thank you for being so polite. I love doing this but I also see a part of it and my HRT counseling on reddit as a way of volunteering online and giving back. I will follow your progress with interest so please provide updates of your improvement.

No for ketaconazole yet but I'm gonna get nizoral and use that once a week. I cant use it more I fear it would dry my scalp and cause flakiness. No topical anti androgen blockers yet. RU will be the last resort if this sh*t fails.

Try Regenepure DR best Ketaconazole based shampoo, before RU consider Topical Finasteride or Dutasteride as that’s what I use. Target serum scalp DHT direct, some studies have shown Topical to inhibit nearly 90%.

How often do u use ketaconazole? I have it right now. I'll probably wait for my dermapen to arrive and add that to the regimen, then wait a bit and add minoxidil with it, then reevaluate.

I use Regenepure DR daily and Nizoral 2% every other day, but I also oil my scalp every other day with oils. Regenepure DR is less harsh and has 1% Ketaconazole but packed with other natural great ingredients.
