The Big Dilemma - Future Thoughts About Hairloss

Hi guys,

So first - I am not sure this is the right place, but since it is highly related to the recent (and ongoing) improvement and innovation in the hair loss industry - I think you guys will be able to relate to what I call : The big dilemma.

So, the big dilemma is probably something that is very common to many of the hair loss sufferers. This is pretty much the following problem:

First, a little background about myself:
I am turning 28 soon. I remember started losing my hair at the age of 20-21. today I am somewhere between NW5-NW6. Used minoxidil for 6 years, finasteride for 6 months. finasteride didn't help me (I am convinced it even had worsened my situation). minoxidil however, did help during the first years, then I decided to just drop it since I started to thin very much, which made the greasiness of the minoxidil very noticeable on my scalp. And due to the fact it didnt really help anymore.

So this is the big dilemma:
My hairline is very poor, Also receding at my temples. My crown is way worse than every other area (since it started to thin at the age of 20). I have less than average of donor hair, since I suffer the kind of the retrograde alopecia.I buzz my hair to minimum every 5-7 days. I walk with a buzzed hair for like 2 years now. I have consulted some of the best FUE hair transplant surgeons in the world, including names like: Rahal, H&W, Lorenzo, Bhatti. Some of them told me to just accept the situation, some of them told me that I am limited to a frontal + mid scalp solution only (told me I had about 5000 donor grafts for life time). Crown will probably never be able to recover with a hair transplant.
However, a frontal (hairline + temples + some of the mid scalp), will change my appearance dramatically. I will be able to buzz my hair but won't look bald.

The final question is:
I am 28. I wish to have at least some of my best years looking good, before I go too old . If Tsuji will be able to launch his cure by 2020, or 2022 (then I will be 32-34 yo), should I go for at least a frontal hair transplant that will hold on for few years?
1 year ago I would never go for a hair transplant like this, Knowing that I will probably continue balding without having enough donor hairs to cover the "new falling hairs", and then this hair transplant will be f*****g useless, and even worse than useless.
But "given" that in the next 4-5 years I might get my hair back, should I maybe do it?

I am sure this dilemma hit many of the balding members here... so it may be interesting to hear some of your opinions.

Im facing the same dilemma. I decided to go for it. In november i will, hopefully become a norwood 1 again (currently NW3). I think you should go for it.
I mean, before Tsuji, histogen will already enable you to stop further progression of male pattern baldness.

If you get a hair transplant now, it will take a year to see the final result, which will be about the time when Histogen will be there.

Also, maybe Kerastem can already stop the progression of male pattern baldness?

Brotzu lotion, CB, Seti, Bim, Follica, Replicel. It can't be that all of those treatments will fail.

Its a great time to fix you situation, instead of spending years clicking daily on these forums and waiting.

From my experience it tooks 18 months before I noticed finasteride was working for me. If i were you i would not be going anywhere near a hair transplant until your hairloss is stabilized. 5000 grafts is not a lot of grafts to cover anything more then a norward 4 if you want reasonable density. Also depending on your hair/type skin colur etc. Do NOT rush into it.

I have hopes for histogen, but they have been promising for a long time, and have had a lot of delays. And also strange that there product seems to work but they have taken so long to get funding. As I said stabilize your hairloss with the only proven medication to work, that should give you a bit more time hopefully by then we should have some news from histogen and maybe even follica or replicel if they stop fapping about (although im not convinced about these two especially replicel).

What is the expected date of Histogen release in Mexico ? I know US will probably take couple of years after their release in Mexico.

I don't think you should have a hair transplant. If youre going to end up buzzing your hair after hair transplant anyway, then I'd suggest toughing in out for upcoming treatments, or considering smp in the meantime.

Thanks for the advice . Appreciate it.
Uploaded few pics with a bad quality , just to give you a general view of my case. This is after a buzz to 0. After 1 week it look like sh*t, many areas that are not even.

The thing with SMP is that I am afraid it will look like sh*t if I lose the rest of my hair. I don't like the look like you got a tatoo or a painting on your head. It doesn't look natural.

I am very afraid to have hair transplant on hairline and temples and then after the rest of my hair will fall, i will stay with this hairline and only with it. Then what.

Hair piece will probably look the best but it is a cycle i am not willing to get in. Its a contract for many years, always need to be paranoidic that no one will notice, always need to maintain. The scalp needs to be fully shaved. I also am very social and I work with people. I cant just come some day with a long hair. Will be very weird.

1 thing is 100% sure :
I will never ever touch finasteride again. It destroyed my body so bad. I don't even want to speak about it since it reminds me the worst time of my life.
And it didn't help me at all

Have a look at the hair system section here on gourmetstylewellness.com before you dismiss hair systems, you don't need to get into a contract with the saloons. I'm not pro hair system since I'm not a user myself but I would surely try it before giving up completely.

Some users here say they have a good experiences with hair systems.

Hi,
well - as I said, my main problem with hair pieces is the fact that you suddenly got hair, like out of the blue.
And all the people you know, and I see people I know very often, will look at me very strangely, asking questions, wondering, speaking wtf going on. you can't look baldy for few years and then wake up in the morning having a full head of hair, and long one. This is just strange as f*** :)

I agree with this part of what Vincent said- 'I wouldn't bet on future treatments until they are out and proven to work.'

Until the day these treatments are released to the general public its just speculation, so many have been promising and failed before and we are still stuck with finasteride and crappy minoxidil.

But DO NOT go near a hair transplant if you say your body cant handle the meds. I have never seen results in person, but perhaps if you suit the shaved look SMP might be worth looking into. But I would want to see results in the flesh because pics and videos can be deceptive this includes the ones people get sucked into for hair transplants.

Just like any tattoo, it all comes down to the practioner. Smp is my last resort, when I throw in the towel and say f*** it. I still got a good few years till I'm fully fucked (very slowly diffuse thinning) but its kind of nice knowing I have SMP to fall back on. I have seen a few flawless practioners in scotland and the UK (skalp and brandwood) that are probably worth the plane ticket. Who knows anyway, by the time I'm too far gone tsuji might have saved my *** anyway. Currently on 0.25mg of finasteride and its doing its job with no sides.
