Thinking of adding topical spironolactone, any advice?

If you know my story and/or are not interested in hearing a summary of it, you can skip the next paragraph.

I'll be 27 next month, started losing my juvenile hairline when I was 15/16. Hit Norwood 2 by 18/19, so I started rogaine and went back to Norwood 1. I quit rogaine at 21 and retruned to Norwood 2. Then at around 23, my hairline started creeping toward Norwood 3, so I got back on rogaine. It helped but I didn't get the same results I got the first time around, so at 24 I jumped on the big 3 and I've been on it ever since. I think it helped me maintain for the most part, my crown is still strong, I'm still a Norwood 2 with thinning in the Norwood 3 region, it's really not THAT noticeable when grown out or with a little Toppik.

I've given up hope on being Norwood 1 again, I think at this point only a miracle or a hair transplant would bring that back. However, I have some hope to thicken up my thinning Norwood 3 region. Also, now that Nizoral is not available, I feel my regimen is lacking and I really want to add something else to the mix. I'm not willing to try RU, I tried copper pepptides and didn't find it helpful but did find it messy. So that leaves me with topical spironolactone or mico. So my question is, for those who have tried topical spironolactone, what was the experience like? Did you experience regrowth? Where do you buy it from? Any other thoughts or comments on topical spironolactone or on how to improve my regimen would be appreciated. Please comment guys!

well firstly, spironolactone is an anti androgen and mico is a growth stimulant.

i bought my first batch of spironolactone from this website however i will be making my own from now on as i got a spironolactone script from my doctor. in terms of its effectiveness it is a mild aa and imo would not do much good for a person suffering severe male pattern baldness.

any other questions about spironolactone let me know, but i have only been using it for a couple months now and have not lost any ground so thats good results in itself.

p.s the sh*t smells so bad if you mix it with minoxidil!

Thanks for the reply. I wouldn't say I have severe male pattern baldness, I've been losing my hair for over a decade and still haven't even reached Norwood 3, so maybe it'll be helpful. I'm gonna order a container from this site. If I use it an hour or so after applying minoxidil, will it still smell?

Maybe what I really need is mico since my hair is pretty stable and I just want a bit more regrowth. But how safe is it to put that stuff on your scalp everyday? Maybe I'll try it every other day.

Is there anything i can do to make vellus hairs darker? I'm trying folligen, which I did try in the past without results. But I'm giving it another shot because I didn't use it consistently before. I don't think I'm going to bother with spironolactone. Any suggestions?

I was using minoxidil and s5 cream at the same time and had issues. If I used s5 cream and then put on minoxidil about 30 mins or so afterwards I would get brain fog. However, the brain fog passes after a couple of hours.

So, I would suggest if you are using them together then space it out a bit. Maybe even apply spironolactone in the morning and minoxidil at night.

With regards to your vellus hairs, you can maybe try tricomin. I've heard that the copper peptide in it GHK-Cu does help with regrowth and hair thicking etc. So, might be worth a try. Quite pricey though

Although, I've been told that AHK-Cu copper peptide is better. Problem is I don't think there are any products that contain it. But, don't know

Have you guys had any shedding on spironolactone? I started using spironolactone in the morning and revivogen at night and my hair has got heaps thinner. I'm not sure which one would be causing it?

I've heard that folligen is better than Tricomin though. For now I'm just using folligen at night after minoxidil. Hopefully that thickens vellus hairs. I'm not convinced with topical spironolactone so I think I'll pass on it. If the folligen doesn't seem to help in a couple months, maybe I'll try something else.
