Thyroid related hair loss

I went to the doctor to get a check up and have blood work done because I haven't been to my regular family doctor in about 3-4 years. My results for the blood work came back that my T4 level was at like 6 or something -- that's if I'm remembering that fact correctly -- and that 6 was higher than normal by a good margin indicating I have an underactive thyroid. He also said that it could be exacerbating my hair loss to go along with why I've recently felt like I've had carpal tunnel and have had trouble sleeping. Does anybody have any experience with this?

I'm going to get my thyroid checked tomorrow.
I've had a full but thinnish head of hair since highschool.
I'm in my early 40's now and always been paranoid about losing my hair. Just this past year it has begun to kinda finally look like oh crap maybe this is really kicking in and I'm gonna go bald. Figured I just couldn't dodge the bullet anymore so I started minoxidil/nizoral last month.
After doing some research I have many of the symptoms of a thyroid condition. I haven't had a full physical or bloodwork probably since 17/18 years old, maybe longer.
I'm thinking like maybe, just maybe, I've had a thyroid problem all these years hence my thinnish hair and maybe now it just got progressively worse. There is no male pattern baldness in my immediate family as far as anyone can remember aside from some that began to develop it in their senior years.
Nobody in my family is bald or died totally bald.
I'm probably being over optimistic and I might be the poor bastard that got the gene in at this point about 100 years but who knows. I'm having the blood done and the thyroid checked. See what comes up.
