Hello all, long time visitor, first time poster!
I'm turning 40 soon, and I have been stressing about my hair since I was 17. My girlfriend at the time kindly pointed out that I was receding a bit (yeah thanks for that!!) It's funny as before that moment I never gave it any thought, I probably should have as my Dad starting losing his hair in early 20's, and was completely bald by 30 (well apart from hair at back and sides).
So since that moment I have been been constantly stressing about losing my hair, I must admit I thought I would follow in my Dad's foot-steps and be a baldy by 30, so I started using minoxidil when I was 19, used that for a few years, but stopped mainly because I was a student and couldn't really afford it, and my recession was only slight so I decided to just give it a rest.
So over the next 10 years, my hairline didn't really change that much, bit more loss on the temples but I was happy enough to get to 30 and still have the majority of my hair!
Thankfully my hair loss hasn't been aggressive, it's been slowly receding over the past 23 years, but the last few years it's started to really bother me again. Definitely receded a bit more, I have zero loss at the crown though which is one good thing, I just don't want it to recede anymore!
I did start taking Propecia for 10 months when I was 38, but had really bad sides so stopped that, and have been using minoxidil again for last 12 months, I'm getting lots of those fine hairs coming through so will keep using it, in the hope they will get thicker over time, and maybe it will help protect what I still have.
I just wanted to get your opinion of what norwood I am? as you can see from pics, i have good density on top/sides, it's just the recession. Also if you think my hairloss/recession will get worse, or maybe it's reached it's final destination (please god I hope so!!)
One other thing to add, my brother is 45 and has really thick hair, no hair loss at all.

Decent hair for a 40 year old - get a small transplant if it bothers you that much, you'd be a perfect candidate!

Norwood 2 - 2.5

Hi Pablo, thanks. I was thinking of getting a transplant, although my wife thinks I'm mad! lol
I think I may consider it if things get any worse.

Jim, if its an issue which is affecting your day to day living and overall quality of life . . the quicker you get onto it, the more time you buy my friend. We're fortunate enough to live in an era where we are able to take advantage of the available technology we have out there today .. so if you're financially in a good place to do so, have a chat with guys on here, do your research, and get booked in for some consultations.

Like I say, from your pictures and background story, you're a perfect candidate.

Yes you're right, I've done a bit of research on transplants, and the pics I've seen look quite impressive. I wouldn't want to go crazy and bring my hair line down that much, want it to look natural. Anyway thanks for your feedback, i might get myself booked in for a consultation.

Hair looks great for your age. No gray hair, lucky you. I think the truth is you are turning 40. A huge milestone in your life where alot of things can go "downhill". However, you look to be aging well. You are already married but I still understand the fact that you want to look good for your age so you can say that you do. That is all you can hope for now. 10 years from now it will be even harder. And you will care too and that is actually a good thing for you and your wife.

Hi DoctorHouse, thanks. Yeah my wife thinks I'm crazy for obsessing about my hair, I just wish I could go into the future and see what my hair will be like in 20 years, then maybe I could relax about it... I know my wife would love me even if i went bald, it's just a confidence thing, as I'm sure everyone on here appreciates

Blessed. You're well above average for your age and could easily have Zane Malik hair with a hair transplant.

You don't need a hair transplant unless you must have perfection, young pop star hair. If that is what you must have then get a hair transplant

Hi GoldenMane, no definitely wouldn't want a young pop star juvenile hairline, I'm happy being a norwood 2.5. My only fear is that it will turn into a norwood 3 (or worse..)

Your hair really isn't that bad. To be honest, a 40 year old with a Norwood 0 hairline, kind
of looks weird on some people.

Almost approaching fifty. I'm still not even considering a transplant on my Norwood 3 scalp.

Lucky for some. Id suggest dermarolling and S5 cream but be wary of side effects. Ive just started a few days ago and keeping my fingers crossed. But as others have said you do have quite a head of hair on you at 40!

Keep looking at the hairline picture again.

Now I'm starting to think it's not even a Norwood II. Actually, there really is a horizonatal line
(not going back at the temples).

Really, I wouldn't panic if I were you.

Most males with agressive hair loss usually see signs in their twenties.

The fact that you haven't is a good sign.

Thanks for your feedback guys, I will try and stop worrying so much! I will carry on with the Minoxidil as I seem to be responding well with it,

Honestly? You have great hair yet but have a hairstyle that really exposes your temples.
You don't need a hair transplant. You need a better barber.

Yeah I usually keep my hair a bit longer on the sides, the barber went a bit short this time!
