I use toppik and yeah, it works great, but like I said I'm going on a vactaion where i'll be swimming and traveling around, and I'm not gonna let it affect my trip so then im gonna buzz this sh*t off. Also when I get to college I think ill be using community bathrooms (it sucks but the rooms with them are WAY nicer) so idk how i could use toppik.

what is a quarter inch? Is that a one guard?

I'm thinking of starting with a longer buzz, and just going down until it does't look bald anymore. I want it as long as I can get away with, but I'll keep going if I have to up almost to stubble. But I think this would be easier at home so how much are clippers i could buy?

general measurements for most clippers are this

0:

* #0 (no attachment) - 1/100 inch,
* #1 - 1/8 inch,
* #2 - 1/4 inch,
* #3 - 3/8 inch,
* #4 - 1/2 inch,
* #5 and #6 - special tapering attachments
* #7 - 7/8 inch, and
* #8 - 1 inch.

I'd start off with a #4 and go down from there till your balding is less notiecable.

i have a sunbeam clipper set that i got from wal-mart for 8 bucks lol. they're not expensive. you can buy custom guards for sunbeam as well. like if your clipper only comes with those eight you can get one that does like 8/15ths of an inch, etc, or whatever.

awsome, ill go get one of those sometime in the next couple months and buzz my hair right after I graduate.

Sorry the thread got off track, but if anyone has any other comments on the current state of my hair, and wheather they think its male pattern baldness or not, that would be great.

That is a very interesting pattern of loss since the sides are thin. Maybe your genes codes for androgen sensitive hairs on the side of the head? Usually those hairs are not susceptible to androgrens. I am not sure if they lack the receptors or what but thats the reason most people never go bald on the sides and back.

Anyway, i would check around with doctors. I think some labs can analyze hairs to see if miniturization is occuringt. Don't quote me on this though.

Rassman and Bernstein have densitometers that can look at the hairs from a microscopic view and determine the degree of miniaturization in each area of your scalp, if there is any.

I'm not convinced that you have male pattern baldness.

How long has your hair shown thin-ness like that? Is this a recent phenomena, or is this something that you have been noticing for a long time, i.e. longer than 6 months?

Propecia

I took Propecia when I was approx 37 years old and had difficulty achieving an erection.....it wasn't a good thing. This happens in a small percentage of males.....not a great trade-off.

I first noticed it becaause of comments I got towards the end of my freshman year, in high school! I was 15. I was stupid then and never took pictures, so I can't really remeber how bad it was then. Probably not quite as bad then. I was on the antibiotic Mynocycline then for acne, and was almost convinced that was the culprit. I stoped taking the drug, but that changed nothing. That summer I grew my hair out into the shaggy long syle. It still looked thin but its hard to compare that and short hair. It didn't realy get any worse over that year. Then I cut my hair again and I am where I am now. It's really hard to tell if over that time period it has gotten much worse, but im thinking it has thinned out more, no recession that I can see though.
I still don't know if it happened all of a sudden freshman year, but I think that it was slowly building up and getting thinner until I could notice it. I remember even in like 6th or 7th grade getting a comment or two that my hair looked thin when wet, or in the sun all gelled up. In addition as a young kid I had super think hair.

Hope Maybe this helps a bit. If you have anymore questions or want me to specify anything just ask.

I signed up to the forum just so I could reply to this thread....for five years ive never been able to find someone with a case like mine until i read this....my hair looks exactly the same as urs!!!! and im only 19! Mine started when I was 14 or 15 too just all of a sudden i remember i looked in the mirror and noticed i could see my scalp which i had never been able to see before and i received a few comments here and there.

I thought it was just a phase and would get better but it never changed and just stayed the same which is weird because i had such thick hair when i was a little kid. Well at the start of this year I went to a hair studio place and they said it was male pattern baldness so I got some propecia (proscar) and minoxidil....I was on it for about 8 months and noticed a huge difference where my hair was thin it thickened up alot but still not "normal"

I graduated last year but in highschool i used toppik as well which sucked to apply everyday when all of your friends can just get out of the shower and go to school you have to actually apply a concealer to ur damn scalp. Well my hair is still in the same state and is exactly like yours but im using GLH which alot of ppl dont like but for me it covers the thinness of my hair..but dont get me wrong i still want to treat it as bad as possible...i hate being so dependant on a concealer...my hair has prevented me from doing so much and given me an extra thing to worry about it each and every day

I did what u did as well and went to cosmotologists and doctors etc and they couldnt figure it out at all until finally I was told it was male pattern baldness from ashley and martin hair clinic

definately start proscar and also try minoxidil at the same time it should give u a little bit of a gain

keep in touch with me also if u can and let me know how it is because man trust me if anyone understands its me....im still shocked that ive finally seen someone with the same thing i have

Man its heartbreaking to see teens on here. :cry: I know all about using concealer everyday its a real pain :-x so I can sympathise with you there.
But this reminds me of a young guy I work with, I first met him when he was 17 and noticed that his hair density was like that of a bad transplant at the most its about a third of what most peoples are. Its only obvious when you get close up within 3/4metres of him. His hair is like this all over he calls it his baby hair and he's a very happy confident guy he never complains and its only other people who mention it.
The point is whilst his hair is very thin he still has a low nw1 hairline and his crown is no thinner than any other part of his head.
He's 20 now and his hair has not changed a bit or got any worse in the three years that I've known him. Hopefully this is just a hair charateristic and not m.p.b so maybe it will still be the same when he's 30/40...

i agree its so hard to deal with it at a young age...i think i would have handled this happening to me alot better if it was later in my life but for five years ive had to hide it by any means necessary and withdraw myself from alot of activities that other ppl my age would do...i would buzz it off like this guy but i know for a fact it wouldnt suit me at all

before the use of any concealers i would get a comment on my hair every day @ school until i finally found ways to cover it up at least a little bit

there have been times where ive been so depressed that i just didnt want to even go outside...ppl would invite me to parties and i wouldnt even consider attending...i missed out on alot and i guess i still am but the one thing i think all teenagers with hair related problems need to do is hold on to hope...thats what ive been doing

You got to try not to let it get the better of you, I mised out my entire 20's this way. Let people get used to your hair, good or bad (easier said than done I know) hopefully the future is brighter for you youngsters with new meds etc. But it does get a little bit easier to accept the older you get.

Thanks for the replies, it means alot to know that there are people who are dealing with the same thing.

Yeah, along with daily vitamins and tricomin spray I've just started rogain again, hell it can't hurt.

I want to try propecia, but im afraid of the side effects. I don't want to mess up my development. Even though I'm 18 now, I still can't for example grow a beard, would taking propecia effect this at all?

I'm going to stick with this through the rest of high school, then im buzzing it down shorter. In college I'll get a fresh start with shorter hair. I dont think it will suit me great, but it won't look TOO bad.

asd123123 are you still on propecia? If you are, is it still improving your hiar, or just maintaining it? It you arn't, why did you stop? Did you have any side effects from it and how quickly did it thicken up your hair?

I usually shave mine without a guard in place and sometimes even razor my head smooth. Those are the only ways that it won't look abnormal. Your hair is better than mine is i was looking at the pictures and it looks a lot thicker than mine.

So you've had this since grade 8? For me it wasn't noticeable and I didn't really notice it till grade 10 -11 it looked really bad and my hair was all over the place when the wind came since it was really fine as well. I never used any concealers or anything, it was a real blow my confidence. It's affected me so much that I didn't even want to continue my education. I dropped out after finishing my first year of university and decided to join the army, at least there my hair wouldn't matter lol.

Hey what else did the doctor say about your biopsy?

Mine said there were a lot of broken hairs. Whenever hair fell it there were no visible roots or signs of thinning at the end of it, it just looked like it was cut off.

DUPA. Your best bet would be nizoral+dutasteride without skimping. you CAN get alot of density back.

ive just started propecia, what is the difference between that and dutasteride and how do i get a prescription for that

Just reach it online, judging by your pics it's DUPA IMO, and if it is indeed DUPA there is a lower chance that an inhibitor might work so i suggest DUTAS for the highest probability of success.

so i assume though that DUPA is caused by DHT too? in that case propecia will work too right?

bleach53 the biopsy actually came back and they told me it was not male pattern baldness but thats all kinda shitty but im thinking that it may have just been DUPA and they couldn't tell maybe?
