Sure soap cleans, but again 'SOAP' is a term to mean an AGENT used for cleaning.
There is no such thing to say SOAP is SOAP and that's the ingredients SOAP.
SO it all boils down to what kind of product you use and what the ingredients of that soap are.

Use cheap Suave or White Rain or some inexpensive conditioner. Use lots of it. I use about half a cup on my short hair and "wash" using same washing motions, let it set for a couple of min and then rinse with warm water 1 min followed with cool water 1 min. Try it and let me know what you think.
