I think a closely buzzed head looks clean. But it makes you feel so exposed.

Guess what?

You're not fooling anybody.

It feels odd for a day. Then you feel FREEEE! No more stress, yes, it looks a million times better than strips of limp, thinning, bacon laying on your head.

Also, minoxidil is much easier to apply. Plus with the heat outside, it's much cooler.

Was nice, the other morning, I had to run an errand quickly with no shower, and I just jumped into the car without a stupid hat.

Best thing you can do, fella's.

For whatever reason, they say you shouldn't buzz your head with anything shorter than a 2 guard if you plan on using minoxidil. I can't remember where I read it exactly, but I think it was from the company website.

Kind of sucks because I think I look better when my head's buzzed down to a one guard or lower. And I'm pretty sure that the rule is right b/c for a while I was buzzing my head with a one guard while using minoxidil and when I grew it out, I noticed my hair was thinner on the areas where I applied minoxidil.

I think roki on the forum buzzes his head on a 0 every week and uses minoxidil. Roki, what's your take on this?

re:

All this forehead talk and bumps on my head stuff is just way too self critical. No one studies your head and no one says "man that guy has an odd shaped head".
You all need to be less critical. I think there is this perspective that any flaw is "ugly" because all we see all day on TV and in the news is beautiful people. Well normal people have flaws and all the women that you will date will be flawed.
If you want to shave your head do it. I think it is the absolute best choice for a balding man and I also think we should be happy that it is so socially accepted (i.e. by family, coworkers and friends) and actually preferred by many women.

Nice!... It may feel a little weird at first, but you'll get used to it in no time. And remember to hit the gym if you're not in good shape. You're putting more emphasis on your face now, so make sure you don't have too much fat on those cheek bones.

^ well I checked the Rogaine website and it doesn't mention anything about hair length or shaving your head while using minoxidil, so I guess we could forget I mentioned anything about that. But I could've sworn I read somewhere that you shouldn't shave your head or it has to be a certain length if you plan on using it. Maybe someone else read something like that too.

If I'm just crazy, then that's cool. Now I can buzz my head at any length without having to worry.

Buzzing my head tomorrow, How short should I get it @ first?

1 inch?

Would 1 inch still even be considered a buzz?

Well, I recommend going all the way down to 1/4 inch. But if you just want to get used to it, then go right ahead and use the one inch first. That may actually be a wiser decision b/c you can always just buzz it shorter if you feel it's too long.

I buzzed my head last weekend and I feel ten times better. It's definitely not my best look, but it sure beats thinking about how my hair looks all the time. People have been pretty surprised, too, because I always used to have shaggy, semi-long hair.

So I encourage everyone to at least try it once. After all, it always grows back and if you really feel bad about it, just throw on a hat!

And, oh yeah, if you're white -- get some sun on that pasty scalp!

Well its good to see that other people are finally realizing that buzzing and shaving is not such a bad thing and that its 100% better than the worry and stress of trying to hide it. Congradulations to the ones who had the balls to do it, this thread validates my every point.

I buzzed my head with no guard last week, JustShaveIt.

Where's the congratulations for me? Or do I not get congratulations for doing that because I'm on drugs?

You were included in the congradulations, even though some of you guys will still use the drugs it makes me happy that atleast some of you are giving acceptance and liberation a try, the ones i'd really like to see try it are the ones that are so deeply depressed and suicidal over hairloss. Most of you guys are young and haven't come to terms with it yet and using the chemicals is a last ditch effort in keeping your youthful appearance and that is OK ..go for it! But if you see that its not working for you, just keep in mind that their is another alternative that is more healthier, cheaper and much more liberating.

there's no reason that people can't combine buzzing/shaving their head with being on treatments. in fact, it makes the treatments like rogaine a lot easier to apply because they don't get caught in long, tangled hair. some people may ask why people would buzz their head- i mean, doesn't that defeat the purpose of taking drugs? see i don't think so. i think hairline location is very important and taking drugs to preserve the hair roots in the front of the head is very valid. a buzzed head with a decent hairline looks a lot better than a buzzed head with no hairline.

I buzz my head and use the meds too. Even if you buzz your head with no guard, it still makes a big difference whether you have a hairline or a horseshoe, so that's why I continue to use the meds. Imo, if Freddie Ljumberg lost that little bit of hair in the front, then he wouldn't even be half the sex symbol he is right now.

bingo. roots are so important. when i buzz my head on no guard it looks like male pattern baldness has never met me.

Kalbo,

Where are you on the Norwood scale?

I think I may buzz my hair today. I have grown it out longish with the bangs at the front, but I only like my hair when I have styled it. And I cant be bothered doing that everyday. And when you put mousse in your hair then come home and have to apply topical your hair is all stiff and its hard to get topicals to the scalp.

Plus topicals on longer hair is a nightmare. Too messy and takes too long.

I have always had a high hairline, so my forehead is big. My skull is a good shape though.

Heres hoping it looks OK...

Right now I'm a nw2 or lower but I don't sport the buzzed head atm. I was buzzed for almost a decade before I started the meds and was a nw2.5 when I began the regimen.

With a good head shape, you should definitely buzz it off. I have an awful shaped head (I get teased A LOT b/c of it), but I still went ahead and did it. And tbh, even with the head abnormality, I still think it looked good. I got more attention from the ladies (not a whole lot, but more) after I buzzed it.
