Its pretty stupid a drug like finasteride with a 20 year good safety record and no serious side effects is so hard to get. I mean why is it not OTC? Its such a hassle to get I really just dont want to bother. Brand name propecia is a ridiculous rip off. I cant see how anyone thats not a millionaire can afford 60 a month for propecia plus a 60 a month cell phone bill and all the other bills on top of those.

Isn't it obvious? Merck and the FDA are terrified that women will obtain and take the drug!

No, Canada does not yet have this generics program at Walmart yet. However, they do carry generic 1MG Finasteride for fairly cheap, so its still not that bad for us. (around $40 per month)

They do carry the generic 5MG finasteride for approximately $2/pill, which works out to about $180/year for treatment at 1/4 a pill (1.25MG finasteride). Costco is the best bet at $25 per 30 pills, which works out to less than $100 a year.

If you are able to get a prescription for 5MG finasteride, going to costco is by far your best bet.

i'm new to finasteride, and want do a tad bit of research into brands etc..

which brand does costco carry vs wallmart etc?

and is there a consesus on which finasteride is the best (best results, trustworthy, less sides, etc)?

Where did you found brand name Propecia for $60 a month ? I use genric but I have never seen it less than $70 in the past years

As far as money goes 2% Rogaine Liquid used to require a prescription and was $60 a month in 1993

Finasteride is a molecule. It makes no difference which brand name is slapped on it, it's all the exact same thing- Finasteride. Every molecule of Finasteride carries the same risks and benefits reguardless of the manufactuer.

so why does anyone use propecia/proscar vs generic?

just got a perscription for proscar 5mg x30.

they told me to go to my local pharmacy and grab it.

but you guys are saying i should go to costco instead? i', assuming its the same thing, and that my local pharmacy will charge more for the 30 5mg pills?

i had bloodwork done, and my t levels were on the lower end.. however i had the bloodwork doen in the early afternoon, and i was supposed to go in right in the morning so that could have caused the lower than normal t reading.

I plan to go get another bloodtest done and see, but if its still on the lower end of the scale, i'm wondering if finasteride will be an issue. I don't really see it being an issue. But as someone stated, since male pattern baldness inceases as you get older, so to does T levels.. so maybe ppl with low test levels have increased hair loss?

That's one of the silliest ways I've seen for people to argue that testosterone levels can be TOO low for hair. Scalp hair has no need at all for androgens. All they do to scalp hair is contribute to male pattern baldness.

damn, I wish I saw this post a bit earlier. I finally got some health insurance and I saw my Doctor and he prescribed my propecia. I went to walmart to find out that my insurance doesn't cover for propecia. (Just read that most insurance won't cover for it). Paying 200 every 3 months is definitely pricey, I mean.. I can manage it but It will definitely hold me back in life.

I should see my Doctor to see if he can prescribe me the 5mg Finasteride. Such a ridiculous difference in price!

Well, Wal-Mart just added Finasteride 5mg to their $4 generics program, which meens that you can by 30 finasteride 5mg tablets for only 9$, that's a 120 day supply if your cutting them to 1.25mg per day! And if you take .5 MG that's a 300 day supply for $9! Just thought that I would share the info with you guys!

I have a quick question about this. When you pay $9, you are paying for a 30 day supply of Finasteride or are you paying for 30 5mg tablets? I assume that if are using Finasteride for hair loss, the doctor would prescribe 1.25 mg per day and so a 30 day supply would only be about 8 pills. Will Walmart still sell 30 pills for $9 even if it lasts 4 months? Also, is it possible to buy 60 pills at one time and pay $18? I live overseas, so I was thinking of telling my parents to pick up the pills and send them to me. It would be easier if they could send me an eight month supply all at once as opposed to having to send me the pills every four months.
