wondering if anyone could advise me on this. thinking of starting to take protein. probably 3 times a week after exercise. was wondering once you start does that mean you must continue or u will lose the effects similar to minoxidil? or does ur protein requirements rise after taking shakes for a while? would the 3 times a week be a waste? as in does it need to be taken daily?

thanks!

Protein is'nt some kind of treatment !?!.
You get protein in your ordinary diet, the amount you need varies slightly but not many people are severly lacking in it.
Just taking 3 x a week after a workout will be benificial to make sure your giving your body enough to help it to promote muscle growth.

What kind of protein are you going to take?

There is basically two kinds...weight gainer and lean muscle building protein. I drink the lean muscle building protein daily as a meal supplement. I use Optimum Whey protein which is so good for you and tastes wonderful. I mix in a heaping spoonful of Greek Yogurt.

If you take a ton of weight gainer and don't work out you're looking at the possibility of making yourself look a little fatter.

Alot of these protein drinks contain large amounts of dextrose as a filler, so yeah they can make you fat.

I agree with that. Most protein supplements are crap exploiting people's ignorance. A glass of good organic soya milk will give you all the amino acid you need. Probably a bit short of methionine, but this is not a bad thing as methionine restriction has been associated to life extension.

I also supplement about 1 scoop of whey protein daily (25g of protein) within 30 minutes after exercising. I suggest using water (or even juice) to mix because your body absorbs these much quicker than when mixing with milk.

Honestly, exercise should be a daily thing; I goto the gym 3 times per week, at get at least 15 mins of HIIT exercise or a decent jog daily. Having 'off' days really kills my momentum.

When in doubt, just use whey protein. It can be suplimented any time, and used in any type of diet. They are usually low fat/carb/sugar. If you're training every other day, there is no doubt in my mind that you should be having at least 1 protein shake a day.

You're not going to get fat off drinking a whey protein shake after a work out. If you're looking to increase muscle mass, gradually increase your daily caloric intake, and focus on your workout routine.

When looking for whey protein, look at the label on the side of the bottle; you want them to have amino acids, as well as digestive enzymes. These are crucial, especially for after workout shakes; it helps maximize your results.

If you stop taking whey protein, nothing will happen. You won't lose muscle (per se), and you won't go through withdrawal. Whey protein is just a supplement.

I'm pretty knowledgeable about this stuff (I'm actually coming out with a system for people like you that have goals for their overall appearance; weight loss / muscle gain), but for now, I suggest checking out BodyBuilding.com. The site is loaded with answers.

Too get size you need to bulk up first. Eat, eat , eat and eat some more. At the gym do lower reps of heavier weights, like 5x5 sets. Once you're happy with your weight gain, start cutting body fat. As for supplements use whey protein and creatine. You could add in a weight loss supplement when your cutting.

Un-denatured Bioactive protein is the best on the market. Bioactive whey protein is a highly concentrated milk serum isolate which is high in protein (90% protein by weight) and is lactose-free, carbohydrate and sugar-free, and fat-free. just google it lol

I agree about the bulking up part as far as the 5x5 heavy wieght, low reps.

But, if you train your body to "eat and eat and eat" you will get fat eventually. The reason why is that even though you will burn most of it off (or sh*t most of it out) when you are young, all you are doing is giving yourself an eating disorder.

Its really depends on your age and metabolism. IE its hard for me to gain weight even at 4000-5000 calories a day. I even have had to reduce my cardio because every time i ran a few miles i would drop a couple pounds. I am 19 though.

I didn't do that, and had a "spare tire" by the time I was 25, after a few years of not working out. I couldn't stop over-eating even years later (I had a huge appetite all the time), and it all started with the "bulk-up" diet from my teens.
Or don't be lazy and don't stop working out.

There is absolutely no excuse in the world to stop you from doing physical exercise. sh*t, even when I was working full time and going to school 30 hours a week AND raising my little brother (parents weren't around to do so), I managed to get 3 days a week at the gym, and HIIT cardio on off days.

right so i've got my whey protein now and been taking it everyday for a week. just thinking, because im back at football now and training there twice a week and then playing a match on a sat, im only really doing weight training once a week. What will the effect of the protein be? Like if you weren't doing any weight training what effect would it have on your body?
